The R1 Series has proved its towing prowess on various terrains, with the R1T pickup truck backed by a towing capacity of 11,000 lbs – besting the likes of the Ford F-150 Lightning and GMC Hummer EV. Despite having the bragging rights, Rivian doesn’t want to be complacent, and this new update shows us just that.
The new OTA.38 update focuses on improving the towing capabilities of the R1T and R1S. The towing upgrade package includes better range prediction, off-road towing, and user interface (UI) changes.
Within the redesigned Drive Modes app, the new ‘Trailer’ tab enables the EV to sense the weight and aerodynamics of what’s in tow and calculate the range. The more the drivers tow, the more accurate the range prediction will be as continuous learning is integrated into the range estimated algorithm.
