CONCORD, N.H. (WHDH) – A man accused of killing a retired couple in Concord, NH, a year ago was found guilty of all the charges he faced after jurors spent less than two days deliberating.
Logan Clegg had been charged in connection with the deaths of Djeswende and Stephen Reid, who authorities say were shot to death while out on a hiking trail in Concord, NH, in April 2022.
The retired couple was initially reported missing after they left their home in Concord for a walk on April 18. Their bodies were found days later, both with multiple gunshot wounds, setting off an investigation that ended when police arrested Clegg in Vermont in October that year.
It took investigators six months before Clegg was taken into custody in a library in South Burlington.
He was later arraigned on charges that included four counts of second degree murder, four counts falsifying evidence, and one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm.
On Monday, a jury returned a guilty verdict on all nine charges. The verdict came days after closing arguments ended Thursday, Oct. 19, after three weeks of testimony.
The defense only called a handful of witnesses before resting and maintains Clegg didn’t kill the couple. They said the reason he was uncooperative with police was because he was wanted on an outstanding warrant out of Utah.
Members of the Reids’ family spoke after Clegg’s conviction.
“A liar, a thief, a murderer has been brought to justice today,” said their son, Brian Reid.
Brian thanked jurors, adding “There’s no doubt in my mind that the defendant would have killed again and again and again.”
“It was a senseless act of violence,” said Prosecutor Josh Speicher. “Even for murder, there’s really no way to justify what happened and, of course, we feel that, we understand that and that’s part of why we do what we do.”
One member of the jury who 7NEWS is not identifying also spoke about the verdict.
“All came to the right decision,” the juror said. “We were all pretty upset. But we’re good.”
Daughter in law Jackie Reid, meanwhile, shared her thoughts.
“Lifelong humanitarians, beloved worldwide, may Steve and Wendy rest in peace,” she said.
Sentencing for Clegg was scheduled for Friday, Dec. 15.
