Americans were left in shock after finding out that some things in Harry Potter are just British and not actually magic, as they thought them to be.
Classed as one of Britain’s finest exports, loved by generations across the nation, Harry Potter is a series of seven fantasy novels written by British author J. K. Rowling.
The books which were later produced as some of the highest grossing films of all time is a beloved franchise around the world.
The novels chronicle the lives of a young wizard, Harry Potter, and his friends Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley, all of whom are students at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
Recently, many Americans got a bit confused and thought that some things in Harry Potter are magic when they are in actual fact just British.
The hilarious discussion was placed on social media forum Reddit, with one user asking: “Non-British readers, what’s something from the books you thought was magical but turned out to be just British?”
The question received many responses from the social media user who couldn’t control their laughter.
One user said: “Yes, one American has admitted to thinking that the popular British dessert treacle tart is magic.
“Treacle tart is a popular one in the Wizarding World and is a personal favourite of Harry Potter himself.
“But while the taste may be magical, treacle tart is in fact not magic, but imagine if it actually was?”
Another response on treacle tarts stated: “I didn‘t know what they were, so I imagined some kind of cake that looked like an octopus or squid.”
The famous scene in Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone when Harry takes everything off the train food trolley was also discussed on the forum and one person on Reddit admitted to thinking that was magic.
From a reverse perspective, some Americans have admitted to thinking that something in Harry Potter is a British thing when it is in fact magic.
On the forum, one American believed that the famous wizarding beverage that can be seen everywhere in Harry Potter, is a British thing.
On Reddit, they said: “As a kid I really thought pumpkin juice was a British thing, not a magic thing.”
This led to another replying: “Wait, pumpkin juice doesn’t exist?”
