Two truck drivers have been taken to a Toronto trauma centre with serious injuries after a driver struck a roadblock on Highway 400 Sunday morning, according to OPP.
Police said the driver and a passenger that hit the workers were also taken to a local hospital with injuries.
According to police, the collision occurred in the southbound lane of Highway 400 and Line 5. Two truck drivers were blocking the roadway for a previous collision when a passenger vehicle entered into the closure area.
The two workers were standing outside of their vehicles when the oncoming vehicle struck one of their trucks, according to police.
Previously, police reported that the injured blocker truck drivers worked for the Ministry of Transportation. However, police have since clarified that the truck drivers are actually employees of a sub-contractor contracted to MTO to help block highway construction sites.
One driver is now stable with serious injuries and the other driver is in life-threatening condition, according to police.
The southbound lane on Highway 400/line 5 has since reopened, police said.
