Modified bodywork may also have come into contact with a hot exhaust, or perhaps a fitting came loose, leaking oil or another fluid onto the exhaust where it may have caught fire. These are the dangers of modifying cars, and something tuners are all too aware of. With the pressure on for many to complete their SEMA builds in time, there often isn’t enough time to triple- and quadruple-check every fitting.

Leaking fluids don’t just affect modded supercar, though. Even stock examples have been recalled for similar issues, like in the already-fixed case of the Mclaren Artura and, more recently, the turbocharger oil issue on the Ferrari SF90 Stradale and Spider, which consequently prompted the Italian company to suspend its sales.

Whatever the cause was, it appears the vehicles were mostly unharmed, although the damage underneath still needs to be ascertained.
