GOOD MORNING David!
G’morning all. Happy Hump Day + 1, Friday – 1. We’re almost there, the weekend is in sight!

Good morning, IBD Live! Ed, Ken, and HatMan! How much news can we get in one show???

GM Mohammed, thank you for joining us
Would like to hear panel evaluation of TSLA
It will come up for sure
GM from Cape Cod.
GM Phil, good to see you as always.
TAST man Carrol can run a restaurant?
Wow, nice gains. I had mentioned briefly in this story on cheap stocks to buy and watch — https://www.investors.com/research/cheap-stocks-to-buy/
How many trades are too many in a year?
Hmm, good Q; I think one has to decide what type of trader he or she wants to be. Then, compare the number of complete round-trip trades made in a good year of performance with the bad years? Also, one has to consider the type of market. If you’re a short seller, then 2022 was the year to get active! Hope this helps?
I love PLTR
We’ll take a look at shortly
Arnie, you pay dearly for that view with those CA taxes unfortunately.
But we love our traffic and high gas prices
Good Morning everyone!!!
GM, good to have you.
no HatMan pick?
Hey Phil! I didn’t give Ed one right away, but I’m thinking of profiling AXON, MSFT, NVDA. I do own shares in all. Cheers, thank you for joining us as always!
What are the tickers? PLTR, ??

Buenos dias de Tejas!
Buenos dias, gracias por venir
A week or so ago we identified a head and shoulders pattern on NVDA. I would like to follow up on that because NVDA seems to be taking exception.

APP AFRM DUOL earnings gap ups
Hey Phil, GM, Strength in growth stocks burgeoning.
Great music! Any thoughts on CRSP. FDA acts on 12-8 with final determination.
Thanks Michael! Good tunes that NewsCorp has fully approved, selected by Ali. Good to know the news on CRSP. Crispr has been on a pretty wild journey, but overall good one, since its 2016 debut. The market values it as a midcap growth stock now, $4.3 bil. But it used to trade above 200. So the speculative froth has been removed. Now let’s see if product approvals take off with the company and its partners…
Will the market be open tomorrow?
Yes, as far as I know.
Gerry, you guys are getting it from all sides. Geeze.
$6 gas lol, and we need to drive everywhere with no public transport
DSC What was your stock? TY!
none given
Good morning everyone!!
GM, thanks for joining
CELH and DDOG please
DDOG is new to Leaderboard. I’d like to see the stock hold the 100 level firmly and rise confidently past the 102 double-bottom entry. https://leaderboard.investors.com/#/leaders/leadersnearabuypoint
time to play the Billy Idol song for NVDA
Hi Wehob! Funny thing, after the show, a few of us talked about Billy Idol after the editorial team daily stand-up! Which song are you referring? Rebel Yell? Cheers, Hatman
Earnings must have smelled like dead fish for KRUS
Oh man! The stock looks…. kusai (smells bad in Nihongo).
Peter Schiff has finally decided to buy Bitcoin LOL
The original gold bug…
Good Panel Today
As always…
Ken – can the market have an ANTS indication?
No because it would have to have a 20% move in 15 days and that probably won’t happen. The ants indicator is calculated over 15 days.
Li reported good results – guided up and market now down 1.5% what am I missing?

How do you look at the U/D Vol Ration here
Prefer above 1.0, higher the better
Whats been working for me lately is higher than usual amount of holdings with smaller position sizing, sort of my own indexing minimizing risk and adding some short positions to help with the volatility
Sounds good, find the strategy that works for you in the current market
LI 2023 estimate 14,000%?
It’s from essentially breakeven in 2022.
Does the US have any LI autos? Are there other brand names?
Li Auto doesn’t have any models sold in the U.S and focuses on the domestic Chinese market as far as I can tell. In terms of Chinese-owned carmakers with a U.S. presence, the most notable by far is Geely through its Volvo and Polestar (and Lotus) brands.

It’s a model portfolio, not real money.
Appreciate the Historical and Experiences talent folks.
Eric’s research is always fascinating.
good morning Eric! great to see you on the show again!
Nice drop in guest!
Was there news on TSLA that I missed in the morning news roundup?
HSBC initiated at reduce. China price hikes were expected, but smaller than expected.
Confused about opening bullish comments after yesterdays IBD article that we’ve peaked & are weakening?
Which article said we’ve peaked and are weakening? Please send. Due for a pause is what we’ve been saying, but doesn’t mean we will get a pause. Small caps were weak yesterday. But I don’t think we’re calling a market peak.
What does it mean on MS when “Pattern Rec” is grayed out?

Nice work Eric, it would be great to have Justin show how IBD’s Market School handled all those time frames you mentioned
Agreed! To bad Justin is OOO the rest of the week

Please post the dates Eric mentioned.
“Other win streaks 8 or above in the last 10 years:

8 days ending 8/9/18
9 days ending 10/6/17
10 days ending 6/20/17
10 days ending 2/24/15
8 days ending 2/18/14
8 days ending 7/15/13
So the market averages a win streak of 8 or more once/year”
Any observation in particular on FTDs and multiple days in a row like this?
Recommend following Eric Krull online as he’s done a lot of research on this.
No Hat for HatMan???
Why hide that nice head of hair?
Thanks, Eric and the team for bring timely and relevant information to us. great job.
Interesting stats…
That was really cool having Erik pop in and give his insights! Would be great to do that more often with various past guests especially at possible market turning points.
A lot of the heavy hitters are lurking in the background every day and occasionally will pop in with some great comments.
Market pulling in pretty sharply now. It might be time for a pull back, despite Eric’s comments.
My takeaway was “anything can happen” — and with the strength we’ve seen, best to avoid being too bearish UNTIL we see evidence that it’s time to back off!
NUGT up almost 4% this morning
Still feels like gold miners are seeking a bottom and some real upward direction.
Great breakdown on MDB, David. Down the rabbit hole on that stock study. Very helpful!
Hope I didn’t drag everyone down too far!! Ha ha, thank you Ken!
Is BLD too extended to buy now? whaddya think? Many thanks for all of the help that you provide. A long time subscriber and huge fan, Carolyn
Hi Carolyn, thank you for your kind support!! BLD seems to be crossing a trendline from the 307 high in the base right now. At around 265. Since BLD is still forming the right side of the base, to me this is an excellent place to begin building
a position. If you’d like 10% to 12% of your portfolio to be in TopBuild, perhaps start out with 2%, 3%? Cheers, Hatman — https://www.investors.com/how-to-invest/investors-corner/the-art-of-portfolio-management-fewer-stocks-the-best-way-to-a-big-return/
A lot of gap ups have been working/holding up, sounds good to me.
Nice feedback from the market lately. Good point Brian!
Can you comment on FOUR Shift4 Payments
I like the EPS estimates going forward, Don! Solid sales and growth on the top line for sure. You might want to see the estimates for the next couple quarters going forward. If FOUR holds above the 50-day MA, and the moving average starts to flatten out and rise, then I see some good potential in the near term. The 12-month RS Rating of 47 is understandably poor, but on MS, the 3-month RS is solid at 82. Hope this helps? Hatman
Why do MS charts not find the open tick on the bar as providing significant valuable information?
I think it’s legacy as Bill O’Neil was most concerned where it closed for the day.
David, since you’ve just focused on Computer-Database: ORCL yesterday retook its 50-day. Now, last quarter’s earnings disappointed on guidance and “expectations getting ahead of themselves (per IBD 9/12/23)”, gapping Oracle right below its
former gap-up earnings base. Any fundamental reason it ought not recover in this favorable environment to refill that gap now that it’s much closer, and contend with the overhead supply above? This quarter’s report is still 35 days out.
Hi Ira! My impression from the Aug quarter results and the Street’s reaction was that Oracle disappointed on its cloud revenue growth. For several quarters, they had touted the strength of their database management software business for the server business. The Nov and Feb qtr revenue estimates are at $12.31b, flat vs a year ago, and $12.59b, up only 1.5%. I think the company needs to re-energize its sales, would you agree? Cheers, Hatman
lly please
Hi Frank! Thanks for joining us. Despite today’s drop, pls check out the weekly chart. Up 5.5%. Outperforming the S&P. Support at the 10-week MA. RS line in great shape. I own a small amount. On Leaderboard, three-quarters position. Cheers,
Hatman — https://leaderboard.investors.com/#/leaders/leadersnearabuypoint
AFRM. Huge overhead, however.
This rebound has surprised me! But their business model certainly seems to resonate now. 37% growth in revenue in Q3, best in 5 quarters! They look headed for $2 bil in trailing 4 quarter sales now.

Bitcoin has more buyers than sellers.
Remarkable recovery by both Bitcoin and related stocks in the face of SBF’s epic fall.
Isn’t buying BITO like buying gold? A resource play?
Depending on who you ask. Some folks treat it as a safe haven when the market is volatile, so there are some parallels to gold. BITO tracks bitcoin futures but generally reflects moves in Bitcoin itself.
Since there’s no Bitcoin ETF, should an investor use MSTR as a crypto proxy?
Remember what Chris noted about the GBTC ETF regarding tax consequences? Perhaps COIN, MSTR does not have that issue?
Microstrategy
They have a lot of Bitcoin on their books so move in sympathy
COIN going to win the Motion to Dismiss soon
Let’s keep watching that.
Which one of the bitcoin plays did Chris say caused nightmares with his taxes?
GBTC and ETHE. Nightmare may be too strong but it was a pain.
COIN is a great play when you understand how it reacts to bitcoin pricing…has nothing to do with technical indicators
Good point, I should look into that more, David. Wonder if Coinbase has emerged as the top platform for cryptocurrency trading? Don’t know if there’s a true No. 2? Or No. 3?
What about toy makers. Santa has to have toys!
MAT needs to have an excellent holiday season w/ Barbie?
Trial of SBF ending, “Number Go Up” publication = crypto bottom?
Feels like Bitcoin showed signs of bottoming when he got arrested in the Bahamas last year!
Looks like DDOG tightens here at $100
That would be positive.
can we look at LLY?
live answered
Regarding crypto legislation, I read that once that occurs, trading action will settle down and be ‘boring’. Until then, it’ll be volatile and speculative. In the end, the only winners are those that got in years ago.
What’s interesting about crypto in general is that it’s set up so that no one entity can have full control over the asset, unlike currencies controlled by central banks. Problem is because of that, crypto will remain volatile and speculative…until an entity or group controls it. Ironically, I think that control will look very similar to how a central bank controls a currency.
Arne has been mentioning “Santa Claus rally” – isn’t that the last five days of Dec and the first 2 days of Jan ? Thx for clarifying
You’re right, Chet. Maybe due to the tendency in recent decades of big follow-throughs in Oct, the strong moves in Nov maybe have influenced thinking that the Santa Claus Rally, just like Christmas holiday shopping, has expanded into November
and all of December?
I thought that glow was coming directly from Arnie!
Ha ha!!
A few shows ago IBD Live was showing the downward trend lines. What does it look like now? It must of broke above it by now.
We broke above it on 11/3, the day the Nasdaq got above the 50-day. 11/1-11/3 were great days to be ramping up exposure
Chris, do you know if Microstrategy have the same tax issues where ownership means you are buying coins directly?
I don’t think so since it’s a regular stock.
TDG – Ed recommended this stock right after the FTD
live answered
What is the minimum Avg $ Vol you guys look for? Does IBD have any educational resources on Avg $ Vol? If so, where can I find them? Thanks
$20M dollar volume seems to be the panel’s lower limit. Here’s a link https://www.investors.com/how-to-invest/investors-corner/how-much-volume-should-a-stock-have/ — (from Hatman: We generally set a minimum of $25 mil in daily dollar volume for Leaderboard stocks)
How should we interpret “Growth Rate” on the stock chart? GE negative growth rate
Probably still reflecting the huge drop from 2019.
Have we discussed DUOL yet? Up 17% on surprise Q3 profit. This is a prime AI application play that we’ve talked up before. Look at the weekly. This IPO is only $10 away from vying to take out its all-time high. A future long term leader, given
the story?
Touched on it briefly earlier
Ali/Arnie, CELH new shelf placement in HEB in SETX in the the Pharmacy!!!
Good to know! Keeping an eye on the stock, would love to see it tighten up
Hi Ali, I have been adding exposure slowly of course.
Great!
Chris – is the discount to NAV what caused the tax problems with GBTC? If so, that is actually why I chose it over BTC. I *think* that means that it fell more than BTC did and will therefore rise more than BTC will as well. It seemed an arbitrage
opportunity.
No it was the discount. It was that the ETFs used Bitcoin to fund their operations and so I had to report and pay tax on “gains” on the cryptocurrency.
Got alert to short IWM but I will not short
Has been a dog for years. Recent bounce fading but too close to support around $163 to short perhaps…

DSC–you are right. The trial result may be more the beginning of a new leg up.
Thanks for the comment
eagle eyes rocks
He does!
With all the mention of aerospace and defense, thoughts on XAR?
Nice move off the recent lows; I’d watch for a trendline breakout, possibly near 122.
Wow, went to make a sandwich and all my stocks moved up
We’ll keep a close eye on potential pullbacks too.
Ed, I watched a long and detailed video and although yes, there are some Tesla fires but nothing like the numbers in China.
Oh wow, that’s not good
Also, I have watched a few Teslas fires that were not Teslas. . .
Hmm, that’s interesting!

Nice to hear
Great week for trading. Thanks for the market insights!
Great!
Thank you for your time and expertise! Tremendous job today. Have a wonderful Thursday!
You as well!!
BYDDF is on my watch list – this was a massive winner and is based on what I read could well have another nice run in it.
Huge earnings. Going to be the No. 1 BEV maker in Q4. *this* is an EV stock.
please don’t forget that all things considered TSLA is a car company, that’s it
To be fair, car company with hopes for a lot more. That’s the debate.
Thank You everyone on your analysis. Great work today.
As always, thanks for watching every day!
biden just stated tsla should join uaw
Tesla is a juicy target. $$ pay low, has relied on stock compensation (which definitely paid off for a lot of workers!). Poor factory safety record also a selling point for UAW.
BYD has not gone up because regularly its car batteries burst into flames. Look on YouTube for the videos. This seems to be a problems for several Chinese cars.
Hard to say on that. You can find a lot of Tesla fire videos, if you want. I don’t know what BYD fire rates really are, esp. with newer vehicles with the low-fire risk Blade batteries. Tesla uses BYD batteries in some Model Y vehicles in Berlin.
Ali made our group PROUD!!!

Hatman: a lid on interest rates would be great but they need to stop falling at some point soon – long rates continuing lower would be a bad sign for the market’s perception of growth.
Good point. I think technically, after the big rise off the 2021-2022 lows in yields, long-term rates are due for a significant cooling — unless inflation really rears its ugly head, eh?
5.75% cd rates. https://www.bankrate.com/banking/cds/cd-rates/
Wonder how long those will last. I just renewed a CD for 5.25% for 11 months at Citi.
