The folding soft top has made way for a permanent fixture, a louvered fastback that flows into a wide, flat spoiler hanging off the car’s rear end. Beneath this, a full-width LED strip replaces the brake lights, with the rear fascia plate removed to expose the bodywork underneath. Lastly, the entire vehicle has been airbrushed, giving it a battle-scarred look. The front bumper sports a bright green finish.

Watson equipped the cabin with a cyberdeck, custom LED lighting, and an acrylic switch panel with a smoked finish. It’s far from a showroom example, but Chimera impressed the Legends Tour judges with Watosn’s sheer creativity.

Ted Wu, Vice President and Global Head of Design for Vehicles at Mattel, said the 2023 tour brought some incredible cars. “Chris’ journey from rural New Zealand to securing a spot in the Hot Wheels Garage of Legends is truly inspirational and embodies what this tour is all about. Chimera is a great addition to the Garage of Legends, and we can’t wait to create the die-cast version.”
