The homologation special doesn’t come with performance modifications, so it should be rated at around 138 horsepower and 150 lb-ft of torque when it first rolled off the factory – numbers far from what the current Nissan Z makes. It also tops out at a speed of about 120 mph.
Inside, the 280ZXR is as unmolested as possible, still rocking leather-upholstered bucket seats, an AM/FM radio, and air-conditioning. Stored by the original St. Yves Motor Sales buyer over the past four decades, we doubt any unexpected rust will make an appearance.
The 1979 Datsun 280ZXR will hit the auction block on January 2-14, 2024, at Mecum Auctions’ Kissimmee 2024 event in Florida. There’s no reserve, so it’s anybody’s guess what it’ll sell for.
