Florence Pugh was hit in the face by an unidentified flying object during a Dune: Part Two press appearance in Brazil on Sunday. The incident happened at CCXP 2023, so the moment was captured on camera and subsequently shared widely on social media.

In clips, Pugh can be seen wincing upon impact and mouthing either “wow” or “ow” before bending over to retrieve the item.

None of Florence Pugh’s cast mates were in the line of fire, but costars Timothée Chalamet and Austin Butler can be seen reacting as the object glances off the side of her face.

It remains unclear what hit Pugh, but it does appear to have been thrown in her direction from the audience: a dangerous fan trend that appears to be coming back in a post-pandemic world. The trend initially gained traction over the summer amid festival season, with similar attacks made on Bebe Rexha, Kelsea Ballerini, and Cardi B.

In June, Rexha was hit by a phone during a concert in New York City, subsequently sending her to the hospital for stitches. According to the Manhattan district attorney’s office, via the Daily News, Nicolas Malvagna—the phone’s suspected thrower—allegedly told a witness: “I was trying to see if I could hit her with the phone at the end of the show because it would be funny.”
