A seven-year-old boy has died in a hit and run crash in Kent.

The child was struck and killed when two vehicles collided in Folkestone at around 5.35pm on Wednesday.

Police say a red Citroen and unidentified van or car were involved on the A259 Sandgate Esplanade near the junction with Prospect Road.

The unidentified vehicle fled the scene in the direction of Hythe before emergency services arrived.

A Kent Police spokesman said: ‘Police and ambulance crews attended and the child, a seven-year-old boy, was confirmed deceased at the scene.

‘His next of kin have been informed.’

Officers are now seeking information and dashcam footage following the fatal collision.

The force added: ‘Anyone who witnessed the collision, or who saw either the victim or vehicles in the moments leading up to it, is urged to contact the serious collision investigation unit.

‘Drivers are also asked to check dashcams or CCTV for any footage that may assist the investigation.

‘This includes footage in the area prior to and after the incident.’
