A man has been arrested and charged following reports of dogs being “set loose” in Dumfries and Galloway.

Six dogs were rounded up back in July after police were called out to a pack roaming in the Moffat area.

The alarm was initially raised after four dogs were shot dead by a farmer when a sheep was killed and another was attacked by wandering canines.

In an update on Monday, Police Scotland said a 39-year-old man from England had been arrested and charged.

A force spokesperson said: “A 39-year-old man from Boston, Lincolnshire, has been arrested and charged following reports of dogs being set loose in the Moffat area on Sunday 9 July 2023.

“A report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.”

The six dogs rounded up remain in the care of Dumfries and Galloway Canine Rescue Centre (DGCRC).

The dogs have been given names with a Moffat connection. The girls are called Charlotte and Toffee, while the boys have been christened Brodie, Glen, Meadow and Rae.

In an update back in September, the centre’s Emma Scott told Sky News the team was hopeful the dogs would each find forever homes after their rehabilitation.
