The problem comes from the Denso-manufactured fuel pumps equipped in the mentioned models, which also plagued Toyota vehicles.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) safety recall report, the fuel pumps have impellers that were improperly molded, resulting in low-density or substandard parts. They can deform over time, especially when exposed to production solvent drying for longer periods, which could lead to interference with the fuel pump. When this happens, the fuel pump will become inoperable, rendering the vehicles useless due to loss of power, difficulty in starting, and, ultimately, stalling.
Fortunately, Honda said there haven’t been any reports of crashes or injuries related to this issue. However, Honda has had 4,042 warranty claims as of December 12, 2023, so owners must take this issue seriously, as with any other safety recall.
