One person was killed by a fire in a home in Carlisle only a few hours before New Year’s Eve.
Firefighters raced to the house on Pennine Way, near Keenan Park, where flames had engulfed the living room of the ground floor.
The victim, who has not yet been named, was pronounced dead at the scene of the incident.
Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service said in a statement on X that an investigation has been launched to determine what started it.
‘At 3.17pm on December 30, three fire engines from Carlisle East, Carlisle West and Brampton attended an incident on Pennine Way in Carlisle.
‘Firefighters extinguished the fire, but sadly, one person was pronounced dead at the scene. An investigation to determine the cause of the fire is now underway.
‘CFRS will be in the area over the coming days to provide community reassurance and fire safety information.’
No more details about the person who died have been released yet.
