Amanda Waller has condemned the Titans and publicly blamed them for a world-wide crisis. While many still see the Titans as heroes, others now see them as a danger to all. Can the Titans battle misinformation and fight for a world that hates them? All while the greatest threat to the team may be within their own ranks?
The Titans Are About to Be Betrayed By One of Their Own
The Titans went above and beyond when they were asked to step up to replace the Justice League. Unfortunately, fate was against them. A rogue Tamaranean named Xand’r unleashed a powerful alien called the Necrostar, forcing Beast Boy to transform into a Starro the Conqueror-like monster to beat it. While he was successful, Waller sprung into action and had her asset Doctor Hate mind-wipe Beast Boy, leaving him stuck as an alien monster called Garro. Even worse, Garro began sending out spores that started to turn thousands of people into animal-human hybrids.
The real question is if the Titans do have a traitor in the team, who could it be? The former Titan Garth would be a good answer since he’s been under Xand’r’s control for some time. However, the Titans are aware of his brainwashing. Beast Boy’s also a possible candidate, given readers don’t have an explanation for how he’s going to get his mind or physical form back, yet he’s seen locked up with his friends on Titans #9’s cover. The one Titan noticeably not locked up by Amanda Waller is the Flash. But why would Wally betray his friends, and what would that mean for the team going forward?
Is the Flash Going to Betray the Titans?
It’s hard to imagine any member of the closely-knit Titans stabbing their friends in the back. However, Amanda Waller is known to play hardball to get what she wants. Faced with public scrutiny after the “Beast World” fallout and a desire to protect his wife and children, it’s not outside of the realm of possibility Flash could make a side deal to keep them safe. Of course, that’s assuming that Wally isn’t missing on the cover of Titans #9 for some other reason. The solicitation could just be a red herring as the Titans continue to deal with the intense pressure of being publicly hated. Whoever the traitor is, if they exist, the Titans have some hard days ahead of them.
Titans #9 is available from DC Comics on March 19th.
