A serving Metropolitan Police officer has been remanded in custody and charged with rape.
PC Andrej Sagaidak appeared at Westminster Magistrates Court today.
He is charged with two counts of rape, one count of non-fatal strangulation and one count of causing actual bodily harm.
An investigation was launched after police received a report that a man had been raped by another man at a house in Islington, north London, on New Year’s Day.
Sagaidak was off duty at the time and Detective chief superintendent Trevor Lawry described it as ‘a deeply concerning allegation and I know it will cause significant concern’.
A mandatory referral has also been made to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).
