The showrunners of the series, JD Payne and Patrick McKay, opened up about the number of installments of the show in an interview with Empire Magazine in June 2022. Payne stated,
The rights that Amazon bought were for a 50-hour show. They knew from the beginning that was the size of the canvas – this was a big story with a clear beginning, middle and end. There are things in the first season that don’t pay off until Season 5.
The second season was further confirmed at Amazon’s inaugural upfront presentation held in New York City on May 14, 2024, with exciting new updates.

With the power-packed trailer, it was announced that The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power season 2 will premiere on August 29, 2024.
