The tourist, 50, died in hospital and his wife, 48, remains there in serious condition.

After hitting the couple, the driver fled the scene but was later caught by local cops.

He was found to be more than three times over the legal alcohol limit for driving.

The man was also reportedly driving without a license and now faces a reckless homicide charge, alongside a host of existing driving offences.

The Brit couple were on holiday in Los Narejos, part of the Los Alcázares village in southern Spain.

They were staying at the Costa Narejos Hotel, Olive Press reports.

The couple’s identities have not been revealed.

In March a driver who was also allegedly drunk killed a five-month-old baby when they hit a family in Lanzarote.

Expat hotel worker Olivia Brown, 23, was over the legal limit when her “out of control” car slammed into a group of pedestrians.

She worked at a hotel in the popular resort of Playa Blanca where the accident took place.

Another British tourist was killed by a “drunk driver” who was fined just £60 over the crash.

Sonia Da Silva McCarthy, 24, from Wembley, London, was at the start of a two-year stint travelling around the world when she was killed in Tanzania in January 2020.
