A year after actor Tom Hanks revealed a deep fake AI video endorsing a dental brand that soaked the internet about how dangerous artificial intelligence can be, he has again come up with a new fake ad circulating on social media.
On Thursday, August 29, the actor, through a social media post, gave details on the social media posts that were created “fraudulently and through AI.”
Hanks, through his social media post, said.
There are multiple ads over the internet falsely using my name, likeness, and voice promoting miracle cures and wonder drugs.
Later, the Forrest Gump star stated that the deepfakes were “created without his consent.”
He added,
I have nothing to do with these posts or the productions and treatments, or the spokespeople touting these cures. I have type 2 diabetes, and I ONLY work with my board-certified doctor regarding my treatment. DO NOT BE FOOLED. DO NOT BE SWINDLED. DO NOT LOSE YOUR HARD-EARNED MONEY.
Meanwhile, Honks is not the only actor who has been mimicked by artificial intelligence. Last year, an advertisement featuring Luke Combs promoting a miracle weight loss medicine or gummies was later circulated on social media. Previously, the former president, Donald Trump shared a fake image of Taylor Swift endorsing him for the presidential elections.
However, last week, a bipartisan group in the United States, introduced the NO FAKES Act that could give celebrities a free recourse for unauthorized AI productions.
Listed among the bill sponsors, Chris Coons, D-Del stated,
Generative artificial intelligence has opened doors to exciting new artistic possibilities, but it also presents unique challenges that make it easier than ever to use someone’s voice, image, or likeness without their consent,
He added,
Creators around the nation are calling on Congress to lay out clear policies regulating the use and impact of generative AI, and Congress must strike the right balance to defend individual rights, abide by the First Amendment, and foster AI innovation and creativity.
