Historic shoe retailer Clarks is closing two more stores this month.
The firm will shut its store in March, Cambridgeshire tomorrow and a branch in the North Yorkshire town of Gowthorpe, Selby on June 14.
It follows the closure of several other Clarks branches up and down the country over the past couple of years.
The most recent was on King Street in Jersey’s capital, St Helier, which shut on July 27 after 24 years of trading, the Sun reports.
Before that, in June, the Clarks store in Stroud pulled its shutters down for the final time.
Altogether, including the two upcoming closures, nine branches will have closed in 2024. In 2023 at least nine stores shut down.
Staff in at the Selby shop thanked its shoppers for their support over the years, the York Press reports.
They said: ‘We’d like to thank our loyal customers who have shopped with us at these stores, and we’ll be delighted to continue to serve them with our full range of products online and at our nearby Clarks stores in York, Monks Cross and Wakefield.’

Other closures on the high street
Clarks isn’t the only retailer to shut several of its branches over the past couple of years.
Pharmacy chain Boots closed around 300 outlets this summer as part of a massive cost cutting exercise.
Walgreens Boots Alliance, the US parent company of Boots, said in a financial statement last June they would be closing ‘up to 650’ outlets within the following 12 months.
The plans are currently a little behind the initially-envisioned schedule.
