She makes up for what Haze lacks in bulk in stealth and damage output with her best build in Deadlock. Combined with enviable speed, the hero can easily turn invisible to attack and evade. Although she’s especially frail in the early stages of the game, there are steps you can take to level her best abilities and complement her build with beneficial items.

While Haze’s mobility rivals that of Pocket in Deadlock, her combat skills are just as impressive when honed. This places her among the likes of DPS-focused fighters like Warden and Seven when properly leveled. Granted, it takes more work to smooth out Haze’s build, but it’s worth the time and effort for an unrivaled stealth option.

The Best Abilities & Items To Build Haze In Deadlock

Abilities, Items, & Progression

Haze may not be one of Deadlock’s best heroes in the early phase of the game, but her Ultimate ability, Bullet Dance, gives her serious endgame leverage with the right build. She’s good at stealth and general mobility from the jump, so your primary focus should be increasing Weapon Damage output as soon as possible. We’ve broken down her build into ability leveling and recommended items to get you through every stage of the game.

Deadlock
is currently in playtesting, so some gameplay details may be subject to change. We’ll provide any necessary updates here as Valve rolls out new content.

Haze’s Best Abilities & Leveling

Haze can access Sleep Dagger, Smoke Bomb, Fixation, and Bullet Dance. You can level each ability with Ability Points (AP) at 1 AP, 2 AP, and 5 AP, respectively. This can be done in any order, so you’ll want to go for upgrades that benefit your build during each stage of the game. Here’s a breakdown of Haze’s abilities and leveling effects to start:

ABILITY

DESCRIPTION & LEVELING

Sleep Dagger

Throw a dagger that damages and sleeps the target. Sleeping targets wake up shortly after being damaged. Throwing a dagger does not break your invisibility. Sleep Dagger does not interrupt enemies’ channeling abilities.

Level 1: -1 Stamina
Level 2: -13 second Cooldown
Level 3: Applies -12% Bullet Resist for 6 seconds on wake-up

Smoke Bomb

Fade out of sight, becoming invisible and gaining sprint speed. Attacking removes invisibility. Close enemies can see through your invisibility.

Level 1: -15 Second Cooldown
Level 2: +6 meters per second Invis Sprint Speed
Level 3: After Invis, +30% Bullet Lifesteal for 8 seconds

Fixation

Shooting a target increases your bullet damage on that target. Gain one stack per bullet hit, two if the hit is a headshot.

Level 1: +60 Spirit Damage and 15% Slow to target every 20 stacks, with a duration of 2 seconds
Level 2: +40 Max Stacks and +5 Second Duration
Level 3: +0.2 Weapon Damage per stack

Bullet Dance

Enter a flurry, firing your weapon at nearby enemies with perfect accuracy. During the flurry, Haze gains a fire rate bonus and evades some bullets shot at her.

Level 1: +7 Weapon Damage
Level 2: -40 Second Cooldown
Level 3: +1 targets hit per shot

For Haze’s best build, we’ll prioritize her Ultimate, Bullet Dance. To get there, start with unlocking Fixation, then go for Sleep Dagger and Smoke Bomb. Bullet Dance will be your final unlock, and you can begin leveling each ability.

While you can aim for some upgrades according to personal preference, you’ll want to grab at least the first two Fixation upgrades to boost Weapon and Spirit Damage. From there, you can funnel your AP into either Bullet Dance or Smoke Bomb.

The former’s first upgrade will significantly increase Weapon Damage while the latter will shorten Cooldown and improve Sprint Speed for easy stealth kills. Since we’re going for an Ultimate-based build here, though, Bullet Dance upgrades will pay off sooner.

If you’re aiming for a stealth-based build for Haze, then leveling Smoke Bomb first is a much more feasible option, though you’ll need to rely on items for damage increases in the meantime.

Either way, it’s a good idea to top off Fixation with its final upgrade, then work on leveling Bullet Dance, Smoke Bomb, and Sleep Dagger in that order. This will max your Weapon Damage output first and solidify Haze’s stealth skills second to make up for her lack of bulk.

Moreover, you can use Smoke Bomb and Sleep Dagger as interchangeable escape options on par with Kelvin’s Ice Path in Deadlock. As a result, you’ll have a slippery, reliable build to work within the game’s later stages.

Best Items For Haze

Haze is fast and great with weapons, so you’ll have a solid selection of items to choose from in each phase of Deadlock. Since Bullet Dance is our top priority, many of the game’s available Weapon Items will be of use, with several Spirit and Vitality Items to help with Spirit scaling and bulk. Here’s a look at our top picks:

PHASE

SUGGESTED ITEMS

Early Game

Rapid Rounds
Ammo Scavenger
Basic Magazine
Extra Health

Mid Game

Active Reload
Bullet Lifesteal
Quicksilver Reload
Kinetic Dash
Extra Stamina
Sprint Boots

Late Game

Ricochet
Silencer
Enduring Speed
Bullet Resist Shredder

Because you’ll be relying on Haze’s weapon like you would with Warden’s best Deadlock build, you’ll want to start with Rapid Rounds, Ammo Scavenger, and Basic Magazine. This will increase your ammo and improve the fire rate by 9%, with a minimal speed boost. Extra Health is also a must to increase base health and make up for what’s lost in the lane.

Extra Spirit is a great optional item here for the Spirit power boost. While this will also help with health and regeneration, Haze’s Spirit scaling will benefit greatly from the increase.

Nearing the middle stages of Deadlock, Active Reload and Quicksilver Reload are essential. Active Reload will increase Weapon Damage and shed time off your reload, proving helpful in a chase. The latter will deal Spirit Damage with a 15% increase in fire rate.

For mobility boosts, you’ll have Sprint Boots, Kinetic Dash, and Extra Stamina to increase speed and lower the stamina required for dash jumps. Finally, Bullet Lifesteal will provide Haze with the health regeneration she needs to keep going.

In Deadlock’s late game, Ricochet will be your go-to item, boosting ammo, fire rate, and health. Get Bullet Resist Shredder after that for max damage, then Enduring Speed for better mobility. Finally, Silencer makes a great endgame option for the additional damage increase and Silence effects.
