A drone has successfully dropped bombs on the Royal Navy’s experimental vessel, the £7 million XV Patrick Blackett.
Britain is among 27 nations participating in Nato’s Digital Ocean Initiative taking place in Portugal.
The event, in the Troia Peninsula, showcased the Royal Navy’s use of autonomous systems in military exercises.
The naval warforce unleashed a wide range of uncrewed systems, including hand-launched drones, surveillance drones, mini quadcopters, and Pacific 24 boats.

Images also showed the infamous UAV Rotron drone dropping artificial bombs on the ship, demonstrating the latest advancements in British warfare technology.
Nato said the wargames reflect the modern military methods at sea, as witnessed in Ukraine’s attacks on Russia’s navy with uncrewed drone boats.
A statement from the Alliance said: ‘In response to a more challenging security environment, Nato is stepping up efforts to deter and respond to threats in the maritime domain.
‘Allies are strengthening situational awareness with new emerging and disruptive technologies.

‘It includes conducting more high-end exercises connecting maritime surveillance assets across Allied nations below, on and above the sea.’

The Royal Navy said: ‘A range of drones and uncrewed vessels were deployed on a major international exercise in Portugal as the Royal Navy looks to push its latest technology to its limits.
‘Autonomous Pacific 24 ribs, hand-launched drones, mini quadcopters and surveillance drones will join specially designed shipping containers and experimentation vessel XV Patrick Blackett for Nato’s annual uncrewed wargames.’
The drills, under the name REPMUS 24, have been held since September 9 and will continue until Friday.
UK personnel joined with those from 26 other nations for the exercise, which has mostly focused on uncrewed systems and looks to take kit and equipment from test phases to integration into operations and task groups.
