Mandy Moore is mourning the death of her beloved dog Jackson.
“My beautiful boy. Thank you for an extraordinary 14+ years,” she captioned a carousel of photos via Instagram on Friday, November 1. “You were an excellent protector (even if we told you it wasn’t necessary), you weren’t big on other animals or the kids but you loved in your own way and knew how loved you were by all of us.”
She continued, “You had a big bark that seemed to scare some folks but you were actually the most gentle guy who was secretly scared of his own shadow. My Jackie D. My sweet old man. I hope you find Joni and have a giant pool to chase tennis balls and swim until your heart’s content. We love you forever. Thanks for choosing us.”
Friends and followers were quick to offer their support in the comments section of the This Is Us alum’s post.
“Awww Mandy. Sending you and Taylor and the fam so much love. Jackson was just a sweetheart, and I know he’s up there reunited with Joni now. You gave him the best life, and that will never be forgotten,” wrote one social media user.

Another added, “Beautiful, beautiful pup. It’s never easy. Ever.”
In 2020, Moore, 40, sadly announced the death of her dog Joni, who was nearly 13 years old when she crossed the rainbow bridge. The A Walk to Remember actress adopted the pup from a rescue in San Diego in 2008.

“I’ll never forget the drive home, telling her that it was just us against the world now,” she wrote in a tribute via Instagram at the time. “To know her, was to love her. She never met a stranger.”
Earlier this year, Moore and her husband Taylor Goldsmith adopted another dog, Marshmallow. The pair, who tied the knot in November 2018, are also parents to sons August, 3, and Ozzie, 2, as well as daughter Louise, whom they welcomed in September.
“This sweet boy was found wandering the streets for several days, many miles from here by our beloved nanny, Celina,” she wrote via Instagram in January. “He’s about 6-7 months, unchipped, not fixed (but scheduled for next week) and just the most unexpectedly wonderful addition to our gang. We weren’t looking for another dog but he was looking for us and the fact that he looks remarkably like our dear Joni made it too impossible to ignore.”
