Queen Camilla has canceled her scheduled public appearances this week as she battles a chest infection.
“Her Majesty The Queen is currently unwell with a chest infection, for which her doctors have advised a short period of rest,” a Buckingham Palace spokesperson confirmed in a statement to the BBC on Tuesday, November 5. “With great regret, Her Majesty has therefore had to withdraw from her engagements for this week, but she very much hopes to be recovered in time to attend this weekend’s Remembrance events as normal.”
BBC added that Camilla, 77, is resting at home under doctor’s supervision.
The queen was set to attend the annual opening of the Field of Remembrance at Westminster Abbey on Thursday, November 7. However, Birgitte, Duchess of Gloucester, is set to step in.
Camilla and her husband, King Charles III, were also set to host a reception for Olympic and Paralympic athletes on Thursday, but she will not be in attendance.
This upcoming weekend is a big one for the royal family as senior members are all set to step out for the National Service of Remembrance ceremony at the Cenotaph in Whitehall on Sunday, November 10. The ceremony is set to mark Remembrance Day, which recognized Armistice Day, to commemorate the end of World War I.
While it’s unclear if Camilla will be in attendance, pending the status of her current chest infection, it’s been previously reported that Princess Kate Middleton will make an appearance on Sunday.
The Princess of Wales is starting her return to public duties months after announcing in September that she had finished her course of chemotherapy. (Kate, 42, announced in March that she had been diagnosed with an undisclosed type of cancer.)
“From what I understand, Catherine is doing very well. She is back training at the gym and doing all the things she wanted to do,” royal expert Robert Jobson told Hello! Magazine in their latest issue, published on Tuesday. “I do think that we will start to see a lot more of her, and that she will carry out engagements as well as continuing to work behind the scenes.”
Similarly, a source told Us Weekly that Kate will be returning to work, but her health comes first.
“Kate loves reconnecting with the community and representing her family, but she’s also trying to find a balance between her duties and personal well-being,” the source shared. “She appreciates the sense of purpose but wants to ensure her stress levels don’t get [too high].”
