It’s been a hectic week in the U.S., one defined by confusion and fear after Donald Trump emerged victorious in the 2024 presidential election. But at the end of a difficult week, music fans had something to look forward to — the long-awaited nominations for the 2025 Grammy Awards.
On Friday (Nov. 8), the Recording Academy unveiled the complete list of nominees for the 67th annual Grammy Awards, set to take place on Sunday, Feb. 2 at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles. With a stunning 11 nominations, Beyoncé not only became the most-nominated artist this year, but the most nominated artist in the history of the ceremony with 99 total nods throughout her career, breaking her tie with husband Jay-Z’s 88 nominations. Just behind the Cowboy Carter superstar are Charli XCX, Billie Eilish, Kendrick Lamar and Post Malone, each earning seven nominations at the ceremony.
As with every Grammy ceremony, this year’s awards came with their own set of surprises — many didn’t expect André 3000’s experimental flute album to earn an album of the year nod, yet the former Outkast member joined artists like Sabrina Carpenter and Taylor Swift in the coveted category. Meanwhile, where many expected Hozier to earn his second-ever Grammy nomination after “Too Sweet” took off in 2024, the Irish singer-songwriter wasn’t recognized in any category this year.
Among those snubs and surprises, how did LGBTQ+ artists fare in this year’s nominations? Below, Billboard breaks down the biggest highlights for queer artists in the 2025 Grammy nominations, from Eilish’s ongoing status as an Academy favorite to Chappell Roan storming the Big Four categories.
Billie Eilish Hits Hard (and Soft) With Seven Nods
Dubbed a Grammys powerhouse since she swept all Big Four categories in 2020, Billie Eilish proved once again that she’s still a favorite at the Recording Academy. The star earned seven nominations at the annual ceremony, including record of the year and song of the year nods for “Birds of a Feather,” as well as an album of the year nod for Hit Me Hard and Soft. Among her nominations, Billie also managed to earn a first-time nod in the best dance pop recording for “L’Amour De Ma Vie,” as well as additional nods for best pop solo performance for “Birds,” best pop duo/group performance for “Guess” with Charli XCX, and best pop vocal album for Hit Me Hard and Soft. She ties with Charli XCX, Kendrick Lamar and Post Malone for the second-most nominations at the annual awards, only falling behind Beyoncé’s whopping 11 nods.
Chappell Roan’s Big Year Gets Even Bigger
After a breakthrough year unlike any we’ve seen in the last decade, Chappell Roan received the cherry on top on Friday in the form of six nominations at the Grammys. The “Pink Pony Club” singer nabbed six nominations for the annual awards ceremony, tying her with Sabrina Carpenter and Taylor Swift for the third most nominations this year. Among those noms, Roan earned one in each of the Big Four categories, making her and Island Records labelmate Carpenter the only acts this year to achieve that feat.
St. Vincent Charges Ahead in Rock Categories
With the 2025 Grammys, St. Vincent doubles her number of career nominations. Earning four nods for the upcoming awards show, Annie Clark was recognized in the best rock song and best rock performance categories for “Broken Man,” in the best alternative music performance category for “Flea” and in the best alternative music album category for All Born Screaming.
Doechii Takes a Bite Out of the Rap Categories
Looks like Doechii is taking her “Nissan Altima” for a victory lap. At the 2025 Grammys, the rising rap artist earned four nominations, including best new artist, best remixed recording for “Alter Ego” with Kaytranada and JT, best rap performance for “Nissan Altima” and best rap album for Alligator Bites Never Heal. The 2025 ceremony marks the first time that Doechii has earned Grammy nominations.
Anitta & Kali Uchis Finally Get Their Due in Latin Pop
Just one year after the Grammys snubbed her outright, Kali Uchis emerged with a nomination at the 2025 awards in best latin pop album for her stunning LP Orquídeas. She joins fellow queer Latin pop star Anitta, who also earned a nomination for best latin pop album thanks to Funk Generation. Anitta’s nomination becomes the second in her career, after earning a best new artist nod at the 2023 Grammys.
Halsey, Remi Wolf & More Get Snubbed
For all the big wins for LGBTQ+ artists at the 67th annual Grammy Awards, as always, there were a number of artists that were left unrecognized. Halsey defied expectations and released a trio of Grammy-eligible tracks in 2024 — sobering ballad “The End,” melancholic pop track “Lucky,” and her existential rock anthem “Lonely Is the Muse.” But none of her work earned her recognition from the Recording Academy. Despite critical acclaim, rising pop singer Remi Wolf didn’t earn any nominations at this year’s ceremony. Similarly, Omar Apollo didn’t earn any nods, despite rave reviews for his pop opus God Said No. Beabadoobee turned heads with her rock LP This Is How Tomorrow Moves, yet she earned no nominations in the rock categories.
