Tower of God is an expansive, gripping manhwa that has gotten an excellent anime adaptation. The series’ first season featured an incredible art style, a cast of fun characters, and one of the most famous betrayals in anime. While the second season’s quality can’t be compared to the first’s, it’s still a great show filled with interesting episodes. Baam looks to climb the titular Tower while he looks for Rachel, the girl who found and named him.

The first season serves as a prologue for the show, introducing the world and the characters who live in it. The second season starts after a roughly five-year time-skip. Baam now goes by Jue Viole Grace and becomes FUG’s Slayer Candidate, a dangerous role thrust upon him. Whether he’s an innocent boy new to the Tower or a hardened Slayer Candidate, Baam’s story is unique, captivating, and a great watch in Tower of God.

10 The One-Horned Ogre

Season 1, Episode 9

Tower of God has lighthearted elements, but it’s still one of the darkest anime series. When Baam and his newfound allies want to climb the Tower, they must pass a series of tests. One of the tests pits them against a Ranker, Quant Blitz, and tasks them with taking a badge from him. It becomes incredibly complicated as Baam looks to fight out Michelle Light’s true identity, and Hoh takes her hostage. In a shocking turn of events, Hoh accidentally stabs Michelle, revealed to be Rachel, before taking his own life.

It’s a sad death because of how quickly everything happened. What started as a simple test became a moment of betrayal and confusion, as Hoh realized he was set up. People had died in Tower of God before this, but not by suicide. It’s a sobering moment that gets Tower of God’s serious tone across well.

9 A Thick and Distant Wall

Season 2, Episode 11

The second season of Tower of God sees both Baam’s group and Khun’s group approaching the Workshop Battle. They’re headed there in an attempt to get stronger weapons and tools to climb the Tower with. When the pair are both at the Hand of Arlen, their reunion is just around the corner. While Khun waits for his allies Ran and Nozick inside, he realizes he’s been tricked. He quickly outsmarts his opponent and kills him in an instant.

It’s a great episode in Tower of God because it finally sees Baam and Khun close to reuniting. Khun is fairly confident his friend is alive and Baam couldn’t be happier to see him doing well. It also shows that Baam is being heavily controlled by FUG. They’re putting him on a pedestal he doesn’t care to be on, creating an interesting dynamic late in the second season.

8 Beyond the Sadness

Season 1, Episode 10

After Hoh stabbed Rachel in the back, Baam waited with her in the hospital. He then reports to his friends that she may never walk again, and the group sets up a small funeral for Hoh. When the Test Admins say that Rachel has failed her test, Khun appeals their decision. Only an Irregular can consult the administrator, however, so Baam reveals his status as an Irregular. It’s a turning point for the 25th Baam as he’s now earned the attention of both his friends and his allies.

Baam’s status as an Irregular, or someone who came to the Tower from the outside, makes him the God FUG wants him to be later in the series. Being an Irregular means he doesn’t need to make contracts when entering floors, and he can potentially kill King Jahad as well. While most other characters would have kept this fact in their back pocket, Baam doesn’t mind people knowing if it means he can save Rachel.

7 Mazino Magic

Season 2, Episode 7

Urek Mazino is one of the most mysterious characters in Tower of God and one of the strongest. When Baam and the rest of Team Sweet and Sour were tasked with retrieving Zygaena’s Flower, they found it, and they also found an absolute powerhouse. Urek told them that if they quit the test, he’d spare their lives, but Baam couldn’t accept. Knowing that if he failed, his friends would be executed, Baam took Urek on. As they flew at each other, Miseng accidentally flew between them. Baam sacrifices himself to save her, earning Urek’s respect.

Mazino Magic is a great episode for several reasons. It introduces Urek Mazino to the story, the strongest character in the Tower at that time. It also shows how brave Baam is for his friends. He doesn’t care about Mazino’s Magic if it means saving Miseng and potentially the rest of his friends.

6 Last Chance

Season 2, Episode 1

Despite Tower of God season 2’s controversial art style, it starts with a bang. It introduces Ja Wangnan to the series, one of the protagonists of the second arc. It also introduces Jue Viole Grace, Baam’s FUG Slayer alter ego. Team Sweet and Sour convenes for the first time as they try and pass the test. Bam decides that it would be easier to eliminate everyone than to work with them, so he takes on Hon Akraptor, Kang Horyang, and Ja Wangnan all at the same time.

The first episode of the second season showcases Baam’s newfound strength as well as his ruthlessness. Baam in the first season was soft, naive, and too innocent to want to hurt anyone. The five years since have clearly done a number on him, transforming him into the FUG Slayer that is Jue Viole Grace. If it wasn’t for the time limit, he would’ve eliminated everyone.

5 The Strongest Regular

Season 2, Episode 2

In an attempt to thin the herd, Mule Love, the Test Admin on the 20th Floor, makes every participant display their power level. Yeon’s is great, Prince’s is a little better, and Baam’s is outstanding. He blows everyone out of the water with a score above 100,000, while they couldn’t even hit 30,000. When he shows off his power, his FUG robes are on full display as well, letting everyone know that he’s associated with the criminal syndicate.

It’s another great episode that exists as a stark opposition to Baam’s character in the first season. When he climbed the Tower in season one, Baam was friendly with the grumpiest of people. As Jue Viole Grace, he’s subdued, reserved, and altogether lethal. “The Strongest Regular” makes sure everyone knows that Viole is in a league of his own, and he’s hoping it stays that way.

4 Ball

Season 1, Episode 1

The first episode of Tower of God introduced a lot of new concepts at once. It wasn’t confusing, however, as Baam’s entrance into the Tower was only ever going to be mysterious. The first episode of the series introduces Baam and Rachel and shows Baam’s entrance into the Tower from the outside. While Baam is searching for Rachel, he finds Headon, who allows him to move to the next floor if he can pass a test. Baam must pop a ball which is guarded by a terrifying White Steel Eel, but Yuri Zahad gives him the Black March for help.

The first episode of Tower of God captured Baam’s bravery perfectly. He lets the White Steel Eel eat him so he can stab it from the inside. He also calls out to the Black March for help and the weapon listens to him, also showing that he must be special.

3 The Crown’s Fate

Season 1, Episode 5

The Crown Game featured some of the best fights in Tower of God. It’s a game the Test Admins introduced as a means of allowing people to advance to the next floor immediately. The fifth episode of the first season features Anaak Jahad fighting fiercely for the Black March, and finally reveals Rachel to Baam. The climax of the episode comes when the mysterious figure, later revealed to be Hwa Ryun, attacks Rachel. Baam sacrifices his position to protect Rachel.

His body activates its potential for Shinisu, slicing Hwa Ryun’s mask and eye. It’s another great episode that further shows where Baam’s interests lie. While his friends want to climb the Tower, he just wants to protect them. He wasn’t certain that the hooded figure was Rachel, but he was still willing to save her all the same.

2 A New Trial

Season 2, Episode 12

Nothing is worse than seeing two people who want to be with each other separated by circumstances outside their control. Baam and Khun are good friends who started climbing the Tower together towards the beginning of Tower of God, but they haven’t seen each other since Rachel’s betrayal. Khun had an idea that Baam was still alive, and joins his old team in an attempt to save him. Baam’s new team has members of Khun’s team as well, creating several interesting, new dynamics.

Khun’s relationship with Viole’s team is a great watch. He steps in and immediately acts as their leader, much to their chagrin. He’s what Team Sweet and Sour is going to need if they want to survive the Workshop Battle and hopefully get both Kang Horyang and Jue Viole Grace back in their group.

1 Tower of God

Season 1, Episode 13

The first season of Tower of God ended in a completely unpredictable way. Baam spent the entire season protecting Rachel, only for her to push him to his death. While he survives the fall, his life is changed forever. He meets Hwa Ryun at the bottom of a pit, who tells him that if he wants to understand why Rachel did what she did, he’ll have to climb the Tower.

The final episode of the first season cemented Tower of God as a series with potential. Nobody could have predicated the ending, and it set up an incredibly intriguing story with more questions than answers. Rachel reports back to everyone that Baam died tragically, making her one of the most hated characters in anime. Her betrayal is so simple that it’s legendary. Maybe one day Baam will understand why she tried to kill him, but until then, he has to climb.
