This is the moment a £60,000 car ploughs into science laboratories in north London in a scene described as ‘absolute chaos’ by witnesses.

The Audi careers into the building in Brandon Road leaving shattered glass and extensive damage.

The driver escaped with only minor injuries despite the hefty impact.

Police says the driver was believed to have suffered a ‘medical episode’ before losing control of the vehicle which smashed into the building at around 1pm on Sunday.

Firefighters were also on the scene at the Mayde offices in King’s Cross as the badly damaged car was towed off. Paramedics treated the driver at the scene.

Footage shows the luxury motor hitting the Mayde science lab at up to 50mph.

It bashed into stairs and doors outside the building known as the London Innovation and caused hundreds of thousands of pounds of damage.

Massimo Marcello, 60, a truck driver told Metro: ‘It was lucky no one was injured.

‘It was a Sunday so there were not many people around during the week a lot of people work there  It was chaos and the there was a lot of damage though.’

It is understood that the driver suffered a medical episode before the crash.

There were no serious injuries, but the damage to the building is extensive and inquiries into the incident are ongoing. The Mayde offices offer hi-tech facilities to the science industry and a re one of the new landmark buildings that sprung as part of the redevelopment of King’s Cross.

The incident happened about 100 metres from King’s Cross station.

Before the building was opened it was described by developers as ‘the most recent high-specification office and laboratory building to join the world-famous Knowledge Quarter. This new laboratory scheme of 114,000 sq ft includes high-quality good-manufacturing-practices (GMP) pilot plant facilities and is the only space in London offering GMP manufacturing facilities alongside R&D and office space. This includes one floor of fully fitted lab and office space ready to occupy immediately.’

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: ‘We were called at 12.35pm yesterday (24 November) to reports of a road traffic collision on Brandon Road, N7.

‘We sent resources to the scene, including an ambulance crew, a paramedic in a fast response car and an incident response officer.

‘We treated two people at the scene. We took one person to hospital and discharged the other at the scene.’
