Sabrina Carpenter, Barry Keoghan’s Split: What Went Wrong? (Exclusive)

It looks like Sabrina Carpenter and Barry Keoghan will not be ringing in the New Year as a couple.

Carpenter, 25, and Keoghan, 32, started dating in late 2023 but recently went their separate ways.

“It’s been challenging for their relationship since she started going on tour and has been gone a lot,” a source exclusively tells Us. “Their schedules were not aligning. All the time spent apart it was hard to maintain a relationship amid her career exploding.”

According to the insider, the “Espresso” singer was “being pulled in so many directions” and didn’t have enough time to “commit to a relationship.”

“She has reached a huge level of stardom, so it’s been harder to focus and to be present for him in a relationship,” the insider says. “A bulk of the issue is she barely has time for herself let alone for a relationship.”

A second source, meanwhile, clarifies that the breakup happened within “the last month” because of busy schedules and physical distances.

“ This has been the busiest time period for them both and their schedules weren’t aligning,” the second insider adds. “They had hoped that they would be able to spend more time together and that took a toll on the relationship.”

Carpenter and the Saltburn star did, however, part on amicable terms.

“They are cordial and it was not contentious,” the second source further notes. “Both agreed it wasn’t working. That was something they struggled with, being in different places all the time.”

While the Grammy nominee recently completed the U.S. leg of her Short ’N’ Sweet tour and is gearing up for the release of her Netflix holiday special, Keoghan has also kept a packed itinerary with roles in the forthcoming Bird, Hurry Up Tomorrow, Amo Saddam and a Peaky Blinders film.

“Barry’s very focused on his career and being a dad,” a third source says, referring to the actor’s 2-year-old son Brando from a past relationship. “While shooting Peaky Blinders, he was balancing being with his son during his downtime.”

The third insider further adds that Keoghan was “very faithful and loyal” to Carpenter, as well as “very devoted to her happiness.”

A fourth source also adds that Carpenter and Keoghan are “at different places in their lives.”

The pair first met in fall 2023 during a fashion event in Paris and started exclusively dating by January of this year. Carpenter and Keoghan later made their red carpet debut at May’s Met Gala, one month after he was seen catching her Coachella festival set. They then costarred in Carpenter’s “Please Please Please” music video, which premiered earlier this year.

“I, genuinely — like, a not-even-biased opinion — I was like, ‘Who’s the greatest actor that I can find for this music video?’” Carpenter recalled during an October appearance on CBS Sunday Morning. “And he was next to me in a chair and he was so excited about it!”

She added, “He likes the song, which is great. He does like my music a lot, yeah.”
