It’s the festive season, and we’re accustomed to seeing huskies pulling sleds in Christmas films or frolicking in the snow in charming photos.

Pets 4 Homes reports that while these adorable dogs are currently in vogue, they only started gaining popularity in the UK over the past two decades.

Once a rare sight in British parks and streets, the Siberian husky now ranks as the eighth most popular breed in the country.

However, for those seeking a unique wolf-like dog with stunning white and grey fur, a less common breed similar to the husky is recommended by an animal expert.

Clinical canine behaviourist Will Atherton, who amassed over 24.5 million likes on TikTok, suggests husky enthusiasts consider an Alaskan Klee Kai. The dog trainer stated: “This is why you should get this incredibly rare breed – an Alaskan Klee Kai.”

He pointed out: “The reality is the vast majority of people get breeds like this, or huskies or malamutes because of the way that they look, and they are woefully prepared for what that life will then entail.”

The expert further added: “If you love the Siberian Husky and genuinely think that they may be the perfect fit for you, your family and lifestyle, however that’s slightly too big for you than the Alaskan Klee Kai could be for you.”

Typically, these dogs weigh between 7.3kg and 10kg. They are known for their curiosity, intelligence, agility, activity, and speed. The breed is also energetic but not hyperactive, and they love to exercise.

Hill’s Pet Nutrition stated: “Unlike other husky breeds, they are highly trainable and make good watchdogs. Also unlike their cousins, they are suspicious of strangers.

“They require their owner’s attention and are most likely found at their owner’s side. They talk back and howl, but are not excessive barkers.”

Will also cautioned there is one dog breed that is incredibly loveable but also powerful – and can be a lot to manage.
