Woman in her 70s ‘carrying Christmas presents’ killed in crash

A woman has died in a car crash in Bottle, Liverpool, after witnesses said she was hit after doing her Christmas shopping.

Emergency services were called to the scene of a crash between a Ford Focus and a 72-year-old woman at around 7.45pm last night in Merseyside.

She was taken to hospital where she unfortunately passed away.

A couple who witnessed the tragic incident which occurred on Brewster Street, told the Liverpool Echo that ‘bags and Christmas presents’ were strewn across the road.’

They told the Liverpool Echo: ‘The girl was on the floor and we pulled over to help her.’

Police confirmed that the driver of the Ford Focus involved in the collision stopped at the scene.

Chief Inspector Andy Foster said: ‘We are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward.

‘We are also appealing to any motorists who may have dashcam footage to get in touch.

‘The woman’s family has been informed and are being supported by officers.’

Any other witnesses, or anyone who holds CCTV footage of the incident, are also asked to get in touch with police.

Earlier this week, another woman, 25, was hospitalised after being hit by a car.

In an alleged hit-and-run, two cars collided in South London on Sunday morning leaving one flipped over with a badly damaged roof.

The driver of the other vehicle fled the scene.
