In fact, one seaside town has been hailed as the best spot to visit in winter and is described as being a charming seaside town with a bustling winter scene.

The town is such a delight it’s even been named in the top 10 places among those looking to become a downsizer with the area remaining very much active even during the off-season.

Featured in the list of the best seaside towns to downsize to in the UK, Lyme Regis has also been hailed as a thriving spot even during the colder months with winter in fact being “considered the best time of year” to visit this seaside haven.

Nestled along the stunning Jurassic Coast, Lyme Regis is found among an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and offers everything a seaside town has plus bucketloads more.

The historic seaside town of Lyme Regis is found at the point where the rugged West Dorset and East Devon coastlines meet which adds to its natural beauty seen throughout.

The town also has a fascinating history that stretches back to the 8th century with a coastline packed with fossils. 

A winter stroll along Lyme Regis provides a host of delights to explore including a bustling harbour, characterful Victorian houses and its quiet, sandy beach. 

The region’s ancient harbour known as the Cobb is what makes Lyme Regis such a gem during winter as this is the time it comes alive as it provides shelter to the town’s fishing fleet.

Factors including transport links and house prices were also taken into account with Daily Mail adding how many people looking to downsize to a coastal spot are often worried about the region’s off-season, but that’s not something they need to be concerned about in Lyme Regis, added the publication.

“Winter in Lyme is considered the best time of year by most locals – it’s then they can appreciate the pretty Georgian streets and ancient harbour without the summer hordes spoiling the view,” wrote Daily Mail.

It added how Lyme Regis’s “high street is busy, with an independent butcher, baker and fishmonger”.

Lyme Regis is the perfect place for those looking to take in majestic sights while on a wintery stroll including the scenic hike of the Lyme to Seatown coastal path with picture-perfect moments found throughout this six-mile trail.

Further describing how Lyme Regis is the ultimate spot during winter, Daily Mail added: “The youngsters have a skate park and football club and the various sailing clubs still meet, even if they don’t take to the water.

“The Marine Theatre shows films and hosts comedy, plays and gigs.

“The place is even buzzing on Christmas Day, when hundreds put on Santa hats and go for a swim in aid of the RNLI.”
