Google Search has a new ‘Squid Game’ Easter egg – and it’s more family-friendly than the show! Here’s how to find and play it.
The highly anticipated second season of the hit Netflix dystopian drama Squid Game hit the streaming platform on 26 December, and it’s rather damn good.
Granted, the novelty factor is gone, which may lead many viewers to feel like the show drags its feet a bit in the first few episodes; however, the smash K-drama still delivers the thrills and chills when it comes to commenting on the fragility of morality in the era of late-stage capitalism.
An announcement is expected soon when it comes to the third and final season, but until then, fans who have already binged season 2 can find a new Easter egg on Google to bide their time.
Here’s how to find it:
Search ‘Squid Game’ on Google.
At the bottom of your screen will appear a brown card with a circle, a triangle and a square – motifs which fans will be familiar with.
Click on this and the game begins.
Hardly hard to locate, granted, but it’s worth it.
It’s an online version of the show’s best game, the now-iconic Red Light, Green Light.
The creepy animatronic doll Young-hee – also known as The Doll – greets you at the top of your screen, alongside two masked guards.
You’re now responsible for the lives of six contestants in green tracksuits, who you’ll have to get from the bottom of your screen to the finish line at the top by pressing the blue “O” button when Young-hee’s back is turned and the “X” button when the doll turns around. Timing and reflexes are key.
It’s rather addictive and not as gory as the show, as if one of your players does get caught, they walk away – as opposed to their fate on the show, which is significantly bloodier.
Similar to the series, however, Yong-hee sings the Korean phrase “무궁화꽃이 피었습니다” (which roughly translates to “The Mugungha Flower has bloomed”) when she’s not looking at the contestants which signals when to press the “X” button.
We won’t spoil the surprise when it comes to what happens if you get all your contestants across the finish line, but it is satisfying.
Let the games begin.
