Christina Aguilera Knows What You’re Saying About Her Appearance

Christina Aguilera is “doing something a little different” to ring in the new year.

In a declaration shared to Instagram on January 1, the 44-year-old gave followers a little “reminder to everyone” that “you are your OWN STORYTELLER in your OWN LIFE.”

“No one else can dictate who you are,” the statement continues. “No one deserves an explanation. I am evolved enough to know that nothing comes easy and no one is perfect. Everyone will judge you. No matter WHAT you do. And/or what you don’t do.”

Christina Aguilera‘s caption is tad ambiguous, however the accompanying Reel makes it clear she’s addressing everyone—both the haters and her dedicated fans. The video opens with cascade of comments, most of which are about her appearance: “Who is that,” “SHE IS A DIVA,” and “how is she looking so good?” are mixed in with pleas for new music, which are to be expected, considering Aguilera is a pop icon. The comments are followed by a compilation of 2024 highlights, including BTS video from her Glamour cover shoot, and ends with a cryptic, “TO BE CONTINUED.”

“Acceptance comes with accepting yourself first,” the caption continues. “And the difficult journey it takes sometimes to get there. I celebrate everyone taking the time to put one step in front of the next everyday in order to build the next version of themselves for the better. Allowing yourself grace, patience and respect…”

To be honest, I’m not quite sure what the message is here other than Christina is doing Christina and she doesn’t really care what you think about it, good or bad. (Except…she is reading the comments, so.)

She pretty much said the same thing in her August 2024 Glamour cover story. “I have a maturity now where I just don’t give a fuck about your opinion,” she said referring to critics—both past and present—of her work, her body, or her sexuality. “Other people’s opinions of me are not my business.” Now that message is coming in loud and clear.
