Pokémon GO January 2025 Community Day Guide: Shiny Sprigatito, Featured Attack & Bonuses

Pokémon GO continues its featured Community Days as we move into 2025, starting with Grass-type Sprigatito. The Paldea starting Pokémon has become a favorite for players and if you have missed it so far in Pokémon GO, this is your perfect opportunity to catch one.

Community Days are one of the regular events in the Pokémon GO calendar alongside the Max Mondays taking place in January. These typically focus on one specific Pokémon, giving trainers a great opportunity to catch it. While only small events, they are worthwhile to participate in, as they offer great bonuses and, for 2025, have seen some changes further benefiting those that are participating.

When You Can Take Part

While other events can last whole weeks in Pokémon GO, Community Days are only ever for a few hours. The Sprigatito Community Day will take place on Sunday, January 5, 2025, from 2:00 pm until 5:00 pm local time. The majority of the event is free for all players to take part in. However, there is a ticketed element that can be bought by players, offering further special research and tasks for those that purchase it.

While major mistakes still need fixing in Pokémon GO, Community Days have always been a success. The biggest part of the event is that the featured Pokémon, Sprigatito, will have greatly increased spawns. This gives you a much better chance of catching a strong version if you participate in PvP, as well as increasing your chances of finding its Shiny version.

As part of the Community Day there will be free Timed Research, paid Special Research, and Field Research tasks. All of these will offer items and further opportunities to catch Sprigatito. Ahead of the event, you can prepare by stocking up on Pinap Berries and Poké Balls, to ensure you don’t run out during the event.

Featured Attack & Bonuses

A New Attack For Sprigatito To Equip

A host of strong Pokémon have been featured in Community Days and Sprigatito is no exception. The biggest reason for players to play during the Sprigatito Community Day is for the exclusive opportunity to catch it with a unique featured attack not normally available. If you evolve Sprigatito during the event to Floragato and then again to its final stage Meowscarada, it will have the Grass-type charged attack Frenzy Plant.

Frenzy Plant has a higher attack power than any of its moves currently available, making it a must-have if you are planning to use Meowscarada in Raids, Gym Battles or PvP. In addition to this, from the start of the event going forward, you can also teach Meowscarada another new charged attack, Flower Trick. To fully evolve Sprigatito it will cost 125 Sprigatito candies.

In addition to being able to learn a special move, there are a host of other bonuses that are available for all players during the three hours of Sprigatito Community Day. This includes 3x Stardust and 2x Candy for catching any Pokémon. Trainers that are level 31 or higher have twice as much chance as normal of receiving Candy XL with any Pokémon you catch.

Further, any Incense or Lure Modules used during the event will have their duration increased and last for three hours. All trainers will receive an additional Special Trade for the day and all trades cost 50% less Stardust than normal. Finally, you should take snapshots during the Community Day event for a surprise. While the surprise hasn’t been confirmed, it is normally a rare Pokémon which will then appear for you to try and capture.

How To Get Shiny Sprigatito

Increased Chances Of Capturing A Shiny Pokémon

In addition to the increased spawns for Sprigatito, you will have the opportunity to catch its shiny version as well as its evolved forms Floragato and Meowscarada. While there is no way in advance of knowing if a Pokémon is shiny or not, the greatly increased spawns give you the best opportunity to catch shiny Sprigatito. If you click on one and it is not shiny, you can simply back out and click on another until you find one.

While the number of spawns is increased, you can further increase them and capitalize on the bonuses available during the event to give you an even better chance of finding a Shiny Sprigatito. This can be done by using Incense and Lure Modules, both of which increase the number of Pokémon spawns. The first Community Day of 2025 in Pokémon GO focuses on Sprigatito, but also provides a host of bonuses, making it worthwhile for all players to participate in it.
