A new year brings new beginnings that’s out with the old and in with the new.

The same can be said for the names you choose for your baby, which has seen a stark change compared to recent years.

Babycentre has unveiled their list of the top 100 baby names for girls and boys with some interesting results.

Some baby names have seen a steady rise in popularity while others have fallen by the wayside.

The results have seen a number of changes with both a new boy and girl name coming out at number one.

According to Babycentre’s top 100 list, a few names continue to dominate the charts each year, with Olivia often seen among the most popular.

Interestingly, the list for baby girl names ending in an ‘a’ also dominated, with a staggering 46 out of 100 of them appearing on the list.

In fact, the top 10 girls’ names saw an impressive six ending in an ‘a’ including Mia at ninth spot, Maya at seventh, Ava at sixth, Isla at fifth and Olivia at the third spot with the top girl name also featuring the popular “a” ending.

Noah was knocked off the top spot yet still remains popular with a new boy name being found to be the most popular.

Lily was crowned the second most popular name alongside Noah with Olivia and Theo taking third spot.

Ivy came in at fourth position with Daisy at tenth position and Poppy at eight position.

For the boys, Ethan finished at a cool 10th position followed by George (9th), Oscar (8th), Luca (7th), Arthur (6th), Oliver (4th) and Leo being the fifth most popular.

As for the number one boy and girl name, Amelia and Muhammed were crowned the number one winners and the most popular names for babies in the UK.

Brits love for American-themed boys’ names was evident with Hudson, Mason, Hunter, Logan and Harrison all featured.

As for the baby names seemingly shunned last year, Amelie fell 12 places from the previous year coming in at 94 with Lucy equally dropping in popularity sitting at 95.

Back to the boys and the name Jason suffered a major fall and slipped completely off the top 100 list with Jaxton and Austin also losing their popularity.

The once popular girls’ names, Lilly and Nova, have also both completely crashed out of the list.
