Woman suffered brain bleed after random man punched her on a night out

An attacker who punched a woman and left her with a brain bleed has avoided prison.

Cameron Parry was captured on CCTV attacking a woman and leaving her unconscious on the pavement in Nottingham City Centre.

Parry, 20, exchanged angry words with the victim, who was with two friends, in Goldsmith Street on March 30 last year.

The argument erupted after Parry, then aged 19, hurled insults at the victim, who he did not know, as he walked past.

She confronted Parry before filming him on her mobile phone.

Parry then knocked the phone out of her hand, picked it up and threw it on a nearby tram track.

The infuriated victim followed Parry as he tried to leave the scene before CCTV captured the moment he twice shoved her, including once to the ground, in Forman Street.

The woman then tried to hit Parry as he tried to get into a taxi, prompting him to punch her in the face several times.

She fell backwards and hit her head on the pavement, knocking her unconscious.

Friends took her to the hospital, where it was later discovered she had a small brain bleed from the attack.

Parry turned himself in two days after the attack and pleaded guilty at Nottingham Crown Court to causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

He was handed a three-month sentence, suspended for 12 months, but will be subject to a curfew for six months and be electronically monitored to stay home between 9pm and 6 am.

Detective Sergeant Simon Carter said: ‘There can be no excuse whatsoever for violent conduct such as this. Had Parry not thrown the victim’s phone, it’s likely the confrontation would have ended sooner than it did and with no one getting hurt.

‘Instead, he inflamed the situation and ended up launching a vicious assault on a woman who was far smaller than him and had no real hope of defending herself. The CCTV footage of the incident shows him striking her hard in the face, causing her to fall backwards on the pavement.

‘As we have seen in other cases in the past, the consequences of that fall could have been far more serious and resulted in an extremely serious injury.

‘By his own admission, Parry lost control of himself that night and lashed out at his victim. As this case demonstrates, anyone behaving in a similar way should also expect to end up before the courts.’

One drunken attack left a young woman needing thousands of pounds in dental work after a stranger punched her.

Jade Stanway was enjoying a drink in The Auctioneer in Stoke-on-Trent when mum-of-three Kelly Rodgers launched the unprovoked attack in July 2019.

The 21-year-old said she could taste blood immediately and discovered her two front teeth had been smashed – resulting in 16 dentist appointments, a root canal treatment, braces and implants.
