The hit Starz original spinoff Power Book III: Raising Kanan is returning for a fourth season, and news is already pouring in about the future of the prequel series. Debuting in 2021, Power Book III is the third series in Starz’s successful Power franchise and flashes back to the early 1990s to show the dynamic rise of Kanan from a devoted son to a powerful crime boss. The role was originally played by 50 Cent in Power, and the hit prequel series is produced by the rapper-turned-actor.

Like its predecessors, Power Book III: Raising Kanan has been a critical hit, and the explosive first season even nabbed a rare 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes. As is the case with all the shows in the Power franchise, Raising Kanan‘s greatest strength is its character drama, and fans have been enthralled by the backstory of the seminal Power figure. With a dash of 1990s nostalgia thrown in for good measure, Power Book III follows in the footsteps of its parent series, while also blazing an original trail that has made season 4 possible.

Starz Quickly Renewed The Series

The early renewal is a sign of confidence in the spinoff series, which has already been popular with both fans and critics alike

A few days before the premiere of season 3, Power Book III: Raising Kanan was officially renewed for season 4 (via Deadline). The early renewal is a sign of confidence in the spinoff series, which has already been popular with both fans and critics alike. Kathryn Busby, the head of original content for Starz, spoke glowingly about the series when she said “We are quite sure that after viewers see the battle lines being drawn between Raq and Kanan on this epic upcoming third season that they will demand more“.

Power Book III: Raising Kanan season 3 concluded on February 9, 2024.

This early renewal, coupled with Busby’s statement, seems to suggest that season 3 of the series will be something of a turning point. The show’s future never really was in much jeopardy since it has been such a popular powerhouse for the cable channel, but it does confirm that Kanan’s story continues past season 3. The first teaser for season 4 promised a winter premiere, but it hasn’t been confirmed exactly when in early 2025 that will be.

Who Survived Season 3?

Though the full ensemble for season 4 hasn’t been locked in yet, the cast of the next season of Power Book III: Raising Kanan is already beginning to take shape. Two certain returns are that of Mekai Curtis as Kanan and Patina Miller as Raquel, his mother. Their dynamic is the heart of the series, and it wouldn’t be Raising Kanan without its namesake.

Also joining season 4 is Sibongile Mlambo who has been cast as Imani Okoye, a savvy record executive. Power Book III: Raising Kanan Season 4 Story Details

Things Only Get Darker In Season 4

Based on Starz executive Kathryn Busby’s comments about the upcoming season, it’s clear that Kanan’s story is far from over after season 3. Season 4 will likely continue to explore the rift between Kanan and his kingpin mother Raquel, and give the future crime lord a few more harrowing experiences. Raquel’s murder of Detective Howard will probably bring all sorts of heat down on the family, forcing them to take even more drastic action. Since the prequel series is all about how Kanan came to be the ruthless killer he was in Power, Power Book III: Raising Kanan season 4 might be the darkest yet.
