Serious assault in UK city as police swarm scene and public told ‘stay away’

A major incident is unfolding in Plymouth with reports that a young girl has been stabbed. Rumours are swirling online as police confirm there has been a “serious assault”.

Police have not confirmed how many victims there are but one local, who goes by @ParamedicEm on Twitter, tweeted to say: “Awful what’s going on in Plymouth. Thoughts with the victims and my colleagues who are having to deal with it all.”

Emergency services have rushed to the scene. Reports on social media say a major incident is underway and there are “more than 10 police cars” in the vicinity of West Hoe Road, according to PlymouthLive.

@BeaglePlymouth tweeted saying “it feels like every police officer on duty tonight in Plymouth is here”, and that someone was seen being given CPR. A member of staff at the nearby West Hoe pub said there was a lot of police “just down the road”. The ambulance service’s “incident response unit” is also at the scene.

The Force Incident Manager for Devon and Cornwall Police said: “We are dealing with a serious assault at the scene. Members of the public are being asked to stay away. Officers remain at the scene.”

Reports on social media from around 10pm suggested that there was a large emergency response to an ongoing incident in West Hoe, in the vicinity of Radford Road. Images shared show police and paramedics at the scene. Reports flooded in from members of the public.

Multiple posts being shared on social media suggest there is a major police operation under way in the South Devon city.
