Nico Carrillo, the ‘King of the North’, fights Nabil Anane for ONE’s Interim bantamweight Muay Thai world title on Friday, live on Sky Sports.
Scottish knockout artist Carrillo takes on towering young talent Anane as he looks to secure his shot at Superlek Kiatmoo9, the kickboxing superstar who knocked out Jonathan Haggerty to win the bantamweight Muay Thai world championship.
The stacked ONE 170 card at Bangkok’s iconic Impact Arena features an MMA world championship bout and an outstanding Muay Thai world title fight that will follow Nico Carrillo’s championship opportunity.
Watch live on Sky Sports‘ Youtube channel from 11.30am, with Carrillo vs Anane expected around 3pm.
Carrillo enters the ring with a flawless record in ONE and highlight-reel-worthy knockouts. His aggressive style and power have overwhelmed all his opponents in the promotion so far. He’s stopped them all inside the distance.
Carrillo was originally set to face reigning champion Superlek on this bill but his Thai opponent pulled out due to a knee injury. Instead, the winner of this bout will become the Interim champion and face Superlek for the undisputed crown at ONE 172 in Japan on March 23.
Anane steps in as the replacement and is no stranger to winning titles after becoming the youngest WBC Muay Thai world champion at just 17 years old in 2022. The Thai-Algerian has since been building momentum in the bantamweight division with a five-fight win streak. The 20-year-old’s only loss in ONE has been against the current champion Superlek.
This championship bout is a true collision of styles and a battle for supremacy. Carrillo’s relentless power will be tested by Anane’s versatility, talent, height and reach.
Fans can expect drama, action and the unexpected when the bell rings in Bangkok as this isn’t the only electrifying bout on the card, with another two world titles on the line.
Tawanchai vs Superbon: The Main Event
Tawanchai PK Saenchai, the reigning featherweight Muay Thai champion, headlines the event as he defends his title against the division’s kickboxing champion Superbon.
The pair previously clashed for the Muay Thai belt in December 2023, with Tawanchai winning via a majority decision.
Superbon has since won bouts under both kickboxing and Muay Thai rulesets. His most recent victory, a round one knockout over top contender Jo Nattawut, showcased his stellar form ahead of the world-title bout.
However, Superbon must overcome Tawanchai’s lightning-fast kicks and exceptional ring IQ to dethrone the champion, who aims to extend his eight-fight winning streak.
Andrade vs Kwon Won Il: Revenge Match
Fabricio Andrade puts his bantamweight MMA world title on the line for an explosive rematch against South Korea’s Kwon Won Il.
Nicknamed ‘Wonder Boy’, Andrade has delivered a string of dominant performances in MMA, including a first-round finish against Kwon Won II in 2022.
The South Korean wants to avenge that loss and has won all his fights inside the distance since then. His explosive power makes him a formidable challenger for the Brazilian champion.
One to watch
Freddie Haggerty aims to leave a lasting impression in ONE Championship on Friday’s show.
The British fighter, who is the younger brother of ONE bantamweight kickboxing world champion Jonathan Haggerty, will fight Jordan Estupinan in a Muay Thai bout on the stacked bill.
Haggerty made his ONE Championship debut in January last year with a knockout against Thai fighter Dankalong Sor Dechapan in the strawweight division. One year later, the 20-year-old has earned himself a ‘one-to-watch’ title as he now has three straight wins on ONE Championship – all coming by knockout or technical knockout.
This time, Haggerty will move up a division to flyweight against the Colombian debutant Jordan Estupinan.
While moving up a weight division can be challenging, his older brother’s high praise suggests it won’t be a problem.
“He’s probably one of the best on the roster in all honesty, technique-wise. His power, he’s like a mini-me,” said Haggerty, who has held titles in two divisions in ONE.
Could young Freddie follow in his big brother’s footsteps?
