Three teenagers, one aged 18 and two aged 19, have died after a car hit a tree near Wakefield on Friday evening, West Yorkshire Police said.

Five men were in the car, a black Seat Ibiza, when the crash occurred near West Bretton, a small village.

One of the men is in hospital with life-threatening injuries, police say.

Another passenger is recieiving treatment for non life-threatening injuries.

The vehicle left the road while on Bramley Lane, headed towards Wooley, at around 20:30.

Det Ch Insp James Entwistle, from West Yorkshire Police said: “This is a tragic incident which has resulted in the loss of three lives and a fourth person suffering critical injuries.

“Our thoughts go out to the families of those involved who we are working with to provide support.

“Our specialist collision investigators are establishing the circumstances surrounding this fatal collision and I would urge anyone who may have seen the car involved or who may have dashcam or other video footage that will help our enquiries to please contact us.”

Police appealed for witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage to get in contact.
