A performance artist who has been on every single bus route in Greater London has revealed which journey ‘sent shivers down his spine’.

Dani Marcel, 32, said he wanted to ride on every route to explore places he had never seen before.

He began his journey on December 5 2023, and spent 76 days sitting on different buses.

But not every journey was a beautiful artistic journey, with Dani claiming he was taken on some very ‘ghoulish’ roads.

He told Metro: ‘The final bus route number – the 499 to Gallows Corner in Romford, east London – had a very strange vibe.

‘It obviously goes straight to where the gallows used to be, and you can sense that in a quite journey.’

He described the roads as ‘unusually dark’, adding there was an eerie vibe while travelling down the historic streets. He said he felt like he was being ‘watched’.

The gallows, which were mainly used in the 16th and 17th centuries, were thought to be where a stretch of grass now sits below Masefield Crescent.

Dani said some of the journeys were ‘creepy’ (Picture: Dani Marcel)

Many executed prisoners now lie buried in the area, with the small jail where they were held before their execution now replaced with a school.

Dani added the number 55, which runs between Walthamstow bus station, in east London, and Oxford Circus, in central London, was also slightly less than pleasant and described as the number 25’s ‘evil twin’.

But not all journeys were bad, with all of zones 5 and 6 being ‘very enjoyable’ as it took him to parts of London he had never seen before.

The shortest bus route, the number 389 in High Barnet, north London, which has just 13 stops, was also one of the more quaint and relaxing journeys.

‘It was very funny to take, and it only comes once every few hours so it has this cute vibe to it,’ he said.

He said the 499 to Gallows Corner was the creepiest

Originally from Budapest, Dani originally started the hobby as a way to ‘say goodbye’ to the city after living here for six years.

He originally moved here in 2018 to study at the Royal College of Art and was planning to return to the Hungarian city last year.

But he has now ended up staying, and is urging every Londoner to take up the challenge so they can experience the city’s highs and lows themselves.

Dani said: ‘I really like seeing London and being sat on a bus just forces you to look outside. I had all the time in the world.

‘It was also very cheap, and my bus pass is capped at £5.25 everyday.’
