A BRITISH marketing boss faces jail in the Philippines after he was allegedly caught naked in bed with his mistress.

Mateo Bradford, 27, was arrested after his wife Esiel became suspicious and followed him through the strict Catholic country.

Despite getting married in 2023, Esiel said the couple’s relationship recently hit the rocksSupplied

Esiel saw him entering a rented condo with another woman and quickly alerted the police.

Adultery is illegal in the Philippines and when officers from the Women and Children Protection unit raided the apartment they found the couple in bed, according to police.

Bradford was charged and made his first appearance in court in Cebu on Saturday.

He did not enter a plea and the case was adjourned until next month.

He faces up to four years in prison if he is convicted but furious Esiel said she has no regrets about alerting the police after their 16-month marriage hit the rocks.

She told The Sun: “He’s not giving any support to our son. He spends all his money on his mistress buying her gifts like shoes and bags and paying for a car for her.

“I want him convicted and jailed – what he and his mistress did to me has caused me stress and depression.

“He hasn’t given us any support for three months. I will never forgive him.”

Bradford grew up in Birmingham and attended sixth form in Solihull before getting a job in sales and recruitment.

His father is English but his mother is Filipino and he decided to move there after visiting relatives during a holiday in 2020.

He worked in sales and recruitment for a number of firms before landing the post as head of sales and marketing for an Australian training firm.

Shortly after arriving in the Philippines he met Esiel and they had a son – now aged three – together.

They tied the knot in 2023 with a delighted Bradford posting a picture of the happy couple online with the message: “I got married!”

He added that he hoped the new chapter in his life would also help him at work.

He said: “Reflecting on this beautiful journey, I’ve learned two invaluable lessons – empathy and passion.

“As I return to work after an amazing honeymoon, I now realise these lessons are also invaluable in another area of my life: my career.”

But in recent months Esiel, 28, became concerned when he started coming home late and smelling of perfume, according to police.

She decided to follow him one day last month and saw him entering an apartment with another woman.

The 24-year-old mistress was also arrested when police raided the flat.

Esiel told officers: “Though we have arguments, it never crossed my mind to separate from him.

“I was so shocked when I discovered he was having an affair. I didn’t think he could do that to me.”

A police spokesman in the Philippines said: “The arrest was made based on the complaint of the suspect’s wife.

“She presented their marriage contract when she filed a report. All three of them were living in Butuan City.

“The couple had been having marital problems. The wife followed him to the unit where he was staying with his alleged mistress.”

The Philippines is one of the few countries outside of the Islamic world where adultery is still a criminal offence.

Campaigners have called for reform of the “chastity laws” because they discriminate against women.

A married woman caught cheating just once can face up to six years in jail but husbands can only be penalised if they engage in a ‘concubinage’ arrangement with a mistress rather than a single act of adultery.

Men also face a lower maximum sentence of four years instead of six.
