Police said at least five people are known to have been involved in the collision.

Their conditions are still unknown with several of them being treated on the ground.

The Capital Emergency Services received a call at 3:32pm after being told that people were trapped, say local media.

At least seven ambulances and seven cop cars arrived at the scene at Sortedam Dossering, according to Ekstra Blade.

An image on social media shows a mangled red car parked across the road surrounded by two ambulances.

Dozens of first responders are around the motor which is visibly damaged on the front.

Witnesses claimed to see an elderly man being helped out of the car before being out on a stretcher.

Copenhagen Police confirmed the crash and said multiple teams are on hand investigating the collision.

They announced on X that the man “lost control of the vehicle” before slamming into the people.

They are still said to be treating the incident as a crime scene and are investigating the driver who was said to be driving at some speed.

Horrified witness Henny Christiansen said: “The car drove into these table and bench sets in front of the store, and they fly into the air, and people scream.”

A large area by the bridge has now been cordoned off with a roadblock in place between Nørrebrogade and Sankt Hans Gade, Berlingske reports.

It comes just days after 11 people were killed after a car ploughed into a Vancouver festival crowd.

The death toll included a five-year-old child as dozens others were injured, police confirmed.

A 30-year-old “lone suspect” – who was known to cops – was arrested shortly after the shocking event on Saturday.
