He was pronounced dead at the scene near to a beach restaurant called Chiringuito Martin Playa just after 9:20pm on Wednesday night.

Police sources confirmed the dead man was British and was staying at a nearby hotel.

A spokesman for a regional emergency response coordination centre confirmed: “A man died yesterday evening at a beach in Fuengirola.

“Emergency responders received the first of several calls around 9.10pm, saying a man was drowning in the sea off Fuengirola’s seafront.

“According to the callers he was about 60m (197ft) out and was having difficulties getting out of the water.

She is believed to have fallen around 60 feet from Mirador es Jonquet in Palma – a popular tourist spot which overlooks the sea.

And back in February, a Brit was tragically found dead in the water at a Costa del Sol marina.

Firefighters spent around an hour recovering his body after it was spotted between boats at the popular Duquesa Port near Estepona.

Emergency responders couldn’t save the man, said to be aged around 60, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The man was found still fully-clothed as officials believe he may have owned a boat in the marina.
