This is something that the Co-Creators Crag Mazin and Neil Druckmann had already warned their audiences about, the story of The Last of Us Season 2 will take more than one season to complete. HBO’s this brutal-complex series second season’s seven episodes will take you through a rollercoaster of twists and turns.
In season 2, Ellie’s zeal to avenge Joel brings her face-to-face with the killer, after her interminable and afflicted search in Seattle with Dina, Tommy Miler, and Jesse by her side. Ellie finally found Abby, the killer. But their meeting turned into another mystery. The finale season displays Ellie and Abby in direct conflict, leading to another tragic death.
The Last of Us Season 2 Ending Scene
The Last of Us Season 2, seventh episode, “Every Last One Of Them”, showcases Ellie surviving a deadly encounter with the seraphites. Making her way into the W.L.F compound where she bumps into two of Abby’s friends Owen and Mel. Ellie fires her gun after tense stares, killing Owen and leaving pregnant Mel injured.
Terrified of the incident, Ellie returns to the theatre to regroup with Tommy, Dina, and Jesse. But before she could reach them, Abby comes out from the shadows– kills Jesse, and threatens Tommy. Ellie, who has accidentally killed Mel, surrenders herself in exchange for Tommy.
“I let you live and you wasted it,” says Abby and fires. Immediately after she fires the screen cuts to black and then opens with Abby waking up a few days earlier leaving the audience with the question of who died.
Who died in The Last Of Us Season 2 Finale– Abby or Ellie?
The Last of Us Season 2 ends with an unclear note about who died. As in, the audience can only witness the sound of a gunshot with no visuals. There’s still a dilemma whether Ellie dies or Dina, who was not there in the final scene, comes to her rescue.
Catherine O’Hara who played the role of Therapist Gail Lynden claims that the next part of The Last Of Us series will mostly be about Abby. It is also believed that HBO has renewed the series for the third season in April 2025.
What happened to the other characters of The Last of Us in the finale?
In the final episode of The Last of Us Season 2, Tommy faces some injuries but is still alive. Abby shoots Jesse in the head. He is the only character in the series whose death is confirmed. Druckmann says that Jesse’s fate was sealed; he had to die this way.
Dina, who was missing from the final scene, is still living. However, with Jesse’s death, Ellie and Dina’s relationship is going to be more complicated. Do you know why? “Jesse dies because of Ellie– but Ellie didn’t pull the trigger; Abby does. On the other hand, Dina has gone in pursuit of Abby out of a sense of justice,” says Mazin.
