Police spokesperson Sabri Yorgun said special forces were among those sent to the high school after a call at 10am.

Austrian special tactical unit Cobra – which handles attacks and hostage situations – has also been deployed.

Citing local police, Austrian state media ORF said several people had been seriously injured, including students and teachers.

Authorities believe multiple guns were used in the shooting, and more victims could emerge.

Local Mayor Elke Kahr said the suspected shooter was among those killed.

A spokesperson for the Austrian police department told local media that the suspected shooter was a student at the school.

Austrian tabloid Kronen Zeitung said a suspect had reportedly been found dead in a bathroom.

Police are currently evacuating the building, ORF said.

Authorities have issued a disaster alert to local hospitals, and wounded students are being taken to a nearby concert stadium.

Graz is located in the southeast of the country and has about 300,000 inhabitants.

The shooting comes shortly before the tenth anniversary of the Graz rampage on June 20, which left three people dead.
