On Monday, US President Donald Trump announced that Ukraine will soon have access to advanced U.S.-made weapons like Patriot missile systems, marking a major change in American policy. This is to enable Ukraine to protect itself against continuous Russian attacks via missiles and drones.

These weapons will not be purchased directly with U.S. cash; instead, European countries in NATO will fund the expenses. This will speed up the process and spread the monetary risk throughout the alliance. Although the number of Patriot missile systems is not disclosed, at least two were predicted to be funded by the Europeans.

What is the Patriot missile system?

The Patriot air-defense system is a system invented by the US and is highly technological in sensing, tracking, and firing foreign rockets, aircraft, and unmanned aircraft. It contains intense radar to identify attackers and discharges actuated rockets aimed at demolition in the air. It can fire at a range of up to 160 km and at high altitudes.

Trump Gives Russia 50 Days to Agree to Peace

President Trump has allowed Russia 50 days to consent to a peace agreement with Ukraine. The U.S. will impose high tariffs on Russian goods if it fails to comply. Other territories that continue trading with Russia (and particularly, the ones that are large consumers of Russian oil) may be influenced by these additional tariffs. This implies nations such as China, India, and Brazil could also end up paying greater expenses.

With the new tariffs in action, Russia may not earn money from trade since its exports would then be expensive. Extra taxation may also be imposed on countries such as China, India, and Brazil, which purchase large volumes of Russian oil.

In case a peace agreement cannot be signed within 50 days, such penalties will commence to take effect.

Key Points

U.S. to give Ukraine advanced weapons, including Patriot missile systems.

Europe will pay for the weapons through the framework of NATO.

Trump set a 50-day deadline to make peace or face heavy tariffs.

The U.S. may also go after other nations that keep trading with Russia.

The move is an indication of a more aggressive stance from Trump after failed peace talks.

Big Changes in U.S. Policy

It is a significant shift from his previous attempts, in which Trump paid more attention to Russian deals. Angry that little has changed and that Russia is still attacking Ukraine, he is now urging more action.

The move is being supported by many European countries as well as Ukraine. They are sure that the new weapons and pressure on Russia would assist them in safeguarding Ukrainians and perhaps push Russia to the negotiation table.

Nevertheless, other professionals say that things may change within a short period. It is still unclear whether there will be more war and whether the Americans will be supporting, given the fact that the politics of the country is changing continuously.
