A BOY is fighting for his life after a car ploughed into a trampoline before launching into the air and smashing into a barn.

The terrifying crash happened in a quiet German town when a Volvo SUV veered off the road, tore through two hedges and hit the child with full force.

The two-ton vehicle then went airborne and crashed into the roof and wall of a nearby barn — coming to rest three metres off the ground, embedded in the structure.

The garden was turned into ruins, with the trampoline mangled beyond recognition and several trees downed.

Cops in the Lower Saxony town of Bohmte said on Sunday the seven-year-old suffered life-threatening injuries after Saturday night’s crash.

There were five people inside the black car, including three children aged 11, 12, and 13, Bild reports.

A 43-year-old female passenger was seriously injured, while the others sustained minor injuries.

The man reportedly behind the wheel is a 42-year-old from Osnabrück, according to German outlet Focus.

Neighbour Daniela Viss told tv7news she had been on her balcony for most of the afternoon, but had just gone inside to eat when chaos unfolded.

She said: “I heard this massive crash and thought, ‘Holy cow, what just happened?’

“We rushed outside and saw the car stuck in the roof.

“The mother was just screaming. My boyfriend called the ambulance and police right away.”

Olga Folik, a nearby resident, spoke to Focus by phone, said she looked out the window but couldn’t see anything at first.

“I went over to the neighbour’s house; an ambulance was already there,” she said.

“I only saw the fence and the garden destroyed. And the car stuck in the barn on the second floor. I just thought, ‘How can something like that happen?’”

Folik says that she knows the family involved and that their children play together.

She told the local outlet: “I just hope the child is okay. I had to go back to my children right away. That’s why I don’t know any more.”

A third neighbour who lives a little further away said she was unaware of the accident, but could see and hear a lot of helicopters and firefighters.

Emergency services swarmed the scene after the horror crash.

A fire department spokesperson confirmed: “We were alerted around 8pm to an accident with several people trapped.”

The car was wedged in the wall of the barn at a height of about three metres when cops arrived at the scene.

But nobody was found inside the vehicle, and how they managed to free themselves at that height remains a mystery.

The car’s bizarre final position left even seasoned responders baffled, with the spokesperson adding it was a “very unusual operation”.

According to initial reports, the SUV had crossed a street, ignored a right-of-way, sped through a courtyard, and barrelled straight into the garden before becoming lodged in the building.

Roadside assistance services were called in to recover the wreckage.

One shocked worker told Bild: “The police informed us that the car was supposed to be on the first floor.

“You see a car in a ditch every day. But I’ve never experienced anything like this.”

Using two cranes, the team managed to extract the vehicle without causing further damage to the building.

Police have since launched an investigation into the cause of the crash.

Early findings so far indicate that alcohol was not a factor.
