Iga Swiatek bagged her first Cincinnati Open title on Monday by defeating Jasmine Paolini 7-5, 6-4, without dropping a single set throughout. It’s her 24th career singles title and her 11th at the WTA 1000 event.
Despite being a six-time Grand Slam champion, Iga was extremely happy with her win at Cincinnati. In an interview with Tennis Channel, she said, “I am happy things clicked well. Since Montreal, I trained differently this time and did a lot of mental work to be focused, calm, and composed throughout the tournament.
When asked about whether Iga is looking herself at the 1st rank at the end of the year, she responded, “Honestly, if playing well eventually it’s going to be the effect of that, and I’m not someone who focuses on rankings, I am focusing on becoming a better player.”
Swiatek plans her moves with powerful groundstrokes combined with intelligent shot selection, while disrupting opponents’ rhythm with her occasional net approaches. She also exhibited excellent and practiced footwork with explosive speed throughout the game.
Iga Swiatek started playing tennis to defeat her sister; unbeknownst to her, she became one of the ace players in the field. Let’s take a look at our Cincy winner’s achievements:

When asked about her plans for winning her next big title, Iga responded: “I’m focusing on which is the next tournament now, step by step. This season is too long, and thinking about it from a broader perspective would be overwhelming.”
