K-pop is the shorter name for Korean pop. Nowadays, K-pop has become an industry. They are known by every country. It is the trend everywhere now. Whether it be the stadiums in Seoul or the billboards in New York, these are the groups that have given music the universal language. In this blog article, I will give you information on the top 10 Korean groups. 

1. BTS

The team described in BTS consists of seven young men with nothing but ambition and a few mixtapes, and came into the limelight in 2013. BTS began by singing about youth, school stress, and the pursuit of dreams. They built a strong fan base in Korea with early albums like School Love Affair.

Then came I Need U in 2015, the song that made them mainstream. Hits like DNA, Blood Sweat & Tears, and Boy With Luv followed, and by 2020, Dynamite had them breaking records in the US and topping the Billboard Hot 100.

Their bond with fans, known as ARMY, is extraordinary. They discuss self-love, mental health, and resilience quite freely. They have over 77 million followers on their official Instagram channel, and they possess a following of over 80 million on the Spotify platform. V alone has around 68 million followers. BTS Jungkook, the youngest member of BTS, was the star of the opening ceremony of the FIFA World Cup 2022. BTS is known by the seven members: V, RM, Jungkook, Suga, Jin, Jimin, and J-hope. 

2. BLACKPINK

BLACKPINK debuted in 2016 and immediately grabbed attention. Their first songs, “Boombayah” and “Whistle,” were hits, mixing fierce rap, smooth vocals, and eye-catching visuals. Fans loved their style and energy from the start and they quickly became global stars. Millions of streams were associated with the popularity of the songs, Kill This Love and How You Like That. BlackPink became the first K-pop girl group to appear at Coachella in 2019. Their performances were of high energy and flair.

Currently, BLACKPINK has almost 98 million subscribers on YouTube with more than 39 billion views. Spotify has more than 13 billion rotations of its songs. In 2022, their album Born Pink was number one in the US and the UK. In 2023, they were recognized internationally and awarded MBEs for their achievements.

There are some controversies that they have encountered. Criticism was present over pre-debut videos, music video attire, and stage moments. Jennie, Lisa, Rosé, and Jisoo are the members of BlackPink. They always set new trends for the girls of Korea.

3. Stray Kids

Stray Kids was formed in 2017 through a survival show. The group writes and produces most of its songs.
Their music is loud, raw, and packed with energy; tracks like God’s Menu and Thunderous turned them into 4th-gen leaders. 

At first, they were seen as losers. But their style, full of bold beats and lyrics, caught on fast. By 2022, they were topping charts around the world with albums like NOEASY and Maxident. Fans love them for their authenticity and agile energy. 

4. Seventeen

Thirteen members – three units – one name. Seventeen debuted in 2015 and quickly rose to fame. Their name reflects 13 members, 3 units, and 1 group. As a self-producing idol group, they create their music and choreograph their dance performances.

Their music is bright and youthful, Very Nice and Don’t Wanna Cry became fan favorites. But they’ve also grown into deeper sounds with tracks like Super and Hot.

On stage, their teamwork is unmatched. They move like a single body, even with so many members. It’s that unity, mixed with talent, that keeps them among the top K-pop groups.

5. NewJeans

In 2022, NewJeans stepped into the spotlight with a sound that felt fresh and nostalgic at the same time. Songs like Attention, Hype Boy, and Ditto captured a soft, dreamy vibe that stood out in a market full of heavy beats.

Their style isn’t about overproduction: it’s about mood. They’ve already set fashion trends, with a Y2K-inspired look that fans copy worldwide.

Despite being new, they’ve built a strong presence, winning rookie awards and dominating streaming charts.

6. EXO

EXO debuted in 2012. SM Entertainment gave them a powerful concept, two sub-units, EXO-K and EXO-M, singing in Korean and Mandarin. Their early hits like Growl and Wolf became international anthems.

Call Me Baby and Love Shot cemented their reputation as vocal kings. Over the years, members pursued solo careers and acting. Yet EXO still delivers every time they reunite, proving their music and fandom have lasting power.

7. GOT7

In 2014, GOT7 came into the picture with the bouncy, carefree Girls Girls Girls. They mixed hip-hop, pop, and R&B with acrobatics. They proved that they were very diverse through hits such as Just Right and If You Do.

Soon after leaving JYP Entertainment in 2021, the group remained intact and released the self-titled album GOT7 in 2022. 

8. TWICE

TWICE started off in 2015 with the energetic track Like OOH-AHH. Songs such as Cheer Up and TT made them famous, and Feel Special and Alcohol Free showed a more mature side. Their concerts are bright, entertaining, and they have fans in their batting.

The group features nine talented members, the majority of whom continue working with the group, where they perform and produce new music. Jeongyeon took some time off due to medical reasons, but she is back. Some members also do solo projects, such as Jihyo’s solo tracks, Momo and Sana’s dance videos, and variety shows. TWICE keeps filling up stadiums and is still one of the most popular girl K-pop groups in Asia.

9. BIGBANG

They hold the crown of K-pop kings, BIGBANG started their performances in 2006. Their style was courageous, new, and energetic. Their releases contributed to the modern K-pop sound with songs, like Haru Haru, Bang Bang Bang, and Fantastic Baby. BIGBANG originally debuted with five members: G-Dragon, T.O.P., Taeyang, Daesung, and Seungri. Seungri departed in 2019, followed by T.O.P in 2023.

Their brief reunion occurred at the 2024 MAMA Awards, where they performed their vintage songs. The fans are also excited since BIGBANG is going to carry out concerts in Hong Kong in March 2026 to commemorate their 20th anniversary.

10. Ateez

The band, Ateez, first debuted in 2018 and became popular because of their energy and acting. Pirate King, Say My Name, and Guerrilla are some of the songs that have made the group popular.

They have fans all over the world, called ATINY. Ateez’s teamwork on stage and their connection with fans make them one of the most popular K-pop groups.

Even after all those outlaws like BIGBANG to NewJeans, K-pop still puts forth reinvention. The groups demonstrate that music has no boundaries. The K-pop wave is not going anywhere soon. The huge popularity of K-pop band streamings, social media accounts, and packed world tours shows their ever-rising fandom.
