AT least three people have died and 55 are injured after a horror train crash in Egypt.
The packed passenger train derailed near capital city Cairo – with shocking images showing overturned carriages.

The Egyptian Ministry of Health revealed the initial death toll following the accident.
They said that authorities had been following the crash “which resulted in the overturn of the cars of a passenger train”.
They said: “The minister, his deputy Dr. Mohamed Al-Tayib, immediately headed to the scene of the incident.”
The harrowing ordeal unfolded near the capital city, after the train derailed between Mersa Matruh and Alexandria.
The ministry added that 30 equipped ambulances were helping to transport patients.
All trains on the line have since been stopped, with the crash taking place between Fuka and Galal stations.
The train was on the Matrouh-Moharram Bek line when it suddenly derailed with dozens of frightened passengers on board.
Cranes were called in to lift the damaged carriages back onto the track.
Railway engineers also rushed to the scene to repair the train.
The Health Ministry also said: “According to preliminary reports, the total number of cases has reached 54, 33 of them were transferred to the Central Hyena Hospital, and 21 of them were transported to Ras Al-Hakma Hospital.
“Medical teams continue to assess the health status of patients, ensuring that all blood needs and derivatives are provided to provide the necessary medical care.
“Three deaths have also been recorded, and the bodies have been transferred to Ras Al-Hakma Hospital’s morgue, which is now under the custody of the public prosecutor.”
Shocking pictures showed the train on its side following the sudden crash.
Onlookers watched on as the train lay on the ground, just moments after it came off the tracks.
Egyptian authorities added: “The Ministry of Health and Population affirms its commitment to following the incident moment by moment, in coordination with relevant parties, to provide all kinds of medical and ambulance support.
“The Ministry of Public Opinion will provide any updates in this matter.”
They continued: “Dr. Khaled Abdel-Ghafar, offers sincere condolences and sympathy to the family of the deceased, praying that the Almighty Lord shower them with His mercy, and wishing the speedy recovery of all the sick.”
Last September, at least three people were killed including two children after two passenger trains ploughed into each other in Egypt’s Nile Delta.
Another 49 were injured in the horror crash in Zagazig, capital of Sharqiya, the country’s railway authority said in a statement.
Video from the site of the crash showed a train car crumpled by the impact, surrounded by crowds as men tried to lift the injured through the windows of a passenger car.
Train derailments and crashes are common in the country, where an aging railway system has also been plagued by mismanagement.
In recent years, the government announced initiatives to improve its railways.
